Offline Consultants: How Much are You Consistently Charging Clients for Whiteboard Videos?

Hey Everyone,

A couple of months ago I started providing a whiteboard video service to clients, and I have been experimenting with different price points.

Although I think I have narrowed down the range, I'm still looking for the sweet spot, if there is one.

So a couple of questions for my fellow offline consultants if you don't mind answering:

1. What are you successfully charging your clients for custom whiteboard videos?

2. Are you charging different prices for different industries?

I realize different factors come into play here such as my own selling ability etc, but I'm just curious what price points others are successfully charging.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can offer!

How much have you been charging for them?

Are you getting what your comfortable with?

A few years ago I got my start in consulting by offering video to my customers. These videos were just basically a fancy slide show with some plr music and a call to action.

I priced these at 197 and made a decent amount on them. Some guys were amazed that I made so much on these, while others thought that I should be charging much more. I tried to raise my price on them, but I must have come across weak because I went from selling five or six a week to maybe one the first week.

Most of it was that I didn't feel comfortable, at the time anyway, with charging that much. I now know that those videos can be worth so much more, but I don't have the time to sell them like I once did.

      Thanks for your feedback.

One of the niches that I've been doing well in with selling these is chiropractors. I've been able to sell 1 minute whiteboard videos in this niche for between $697 to $897, although admittedly the $897 is definitely a tougher sell so I haven't commanded this price point often.

But when I target other niches like plumbers and roofers, I've been struggling. I even dropped my prices to around $497 to $597 for the 1 minute video, but this didn't seem to matter much.

What was interesting though was when I first started prospecting in the plumbing niche for this service, the initial response was phenomenal.

I was getting emails, Facebook comments, and phone calls from tons of plumbers wanting to know more, pricing, etc.

But once the price was mentioned.....crickets, lol. At least most of the time.

I will fully admit though I need to work on my selling skills, as I really don't consider myself a good salesman.

I basically just explain how the service works, the price, and answer any questions they may have. I never try making any hard sells, or try to convert a prospect who says no initially....so I definitely have some work to do there.

I think $197 is pretty good for image slideshow type videos. I actually plan on starting to provide those types of videos as well w/background music and voice over.

I'll probably start out pricing in the $297 to $397 per minute price range and see how that goes.

I'm just curious, is there a reason you got away from providing video services? I know you said you didn't have the time, did you start focusing on other more lucrative services?

Just got bored of doing the same thing. Now I don't really have a focus on a particular service, I just mainly do copy writing and consult. I like consulting because I don't have to keep prospecting, I have four clients that pay me well enough that I can be a complete bum if I like for a couple days. Of course I needed to sell more videos to make what you did on one.

One thing you should do is go back to your customers who you sold videos to and ask them for referrals.

What is your sales process like? Maybe I can help you enhance it a little bit.

A big thing to remember is the chiros are white collar workers while the plumbers are blue collar. They are completely different types of people even though they both own businesses.

I don't do whiteboard videos. I do more animation style videos and charge $2,500 - firm. Recently, I've been doing a free 30 second video when you order a 60 second video at normal pricing.

You should definitely look into the data surrounding the effectiveness of whiteboard videos vs. animated videos.

WOW $2,500....that's awesome! So that's what you charge for a 60 second video?

I like the idea of throwing in a free 30 second video with purchase of a 60 second, I could see how that would work well....thanks for the tip.

I think I need to refine what niches I want to target to....I'm loving the chiropractor niche, and I know there's a lot of money to be made in blue collar niches like plumbing but I'm willing to bet you're probably not selling many $2,500 videos to plumbers lol.

I've seen whiteboard animations that aren't worth a $5 fiverr fee. And I've seen some other whiteboard animations that are just awesome...

I'd like to think we are at the better end of the spectrum definitely!

Here's a vid we did recently for on of our chiro clients on our FB page:

                Sample Whiteboard Video

I think the quality is great especially for the price we charge, and most importantly our client was thrilled with the video, which matters the most to me.

Although, I have to admit that Power4Patriots whiteboard video is probably the best one I've seen yet.

                  Hi anpharmd09,

I think your video looks just great and ticks all the boxes that need to be ticked!

Yes the Power4Patriots one is excellent but your one is up there too my friend.

Can I ask what software you use to make your videos?

Yeah that's why I tried lowering the price when I was targeting plumbers.

The sales I've been making are coming mainly from Facebook.

I created a fan page and started by posting whiteboard videos for different niches that I purchased in WSO plr packs.

I then started using Facebook advertising to drive targeted traffic to my post where they could watch the video and then either leave a comment below, or email me or call me for more information.

Then I follow up with anyone that expresses interest....that's pretty much it lol.

I like to keep things simple when I can, but I definitely think I could benefit from enhancing my process a little bit.

I've been considering putting together a strategy where I can build an email list of prospects by giving away a free video consultation, or something to that effect....or maybe a free PDF explaining the benefits of video...but I'm definitely open to suggestions!

Have you asked the plumbers what they think the video would be worth to them? You could try to negotiate up with them. At least you would know if it would still be profitable to put together a video for them.

It might not be four times the amount that you are getting from the chiros, but at least you would make something when you have a couple of moments. That would be better than nothing wouldn't it?

Yeah a little bit. I had a couple plumbers offer $197 to $297 for a custom 1 minute video, but considering my cost to outsource production ranges from $300 to $350, I'd actually be losing money with that price point.

The strategy I'm working on now though is that I'm going to create a landing page where I'm running a contest giving away a free 30 second video, and to register, my prospects will have opt in to my email list and/or send a text to opt in.

Now I'll be building a list that I can directly market to with other offers/promotions any time I want after I've given away the free video.

Also, as soon as my prospects opt in, I'll be sending them a message thanking them for registering, letting them know the winner will be announced on XXXX date, and also I'll give them a special offer/discount code right then and there that they can use by XXXX date.

I'm thinking about making my special offer a free 30 second video with purchase of a 60 second video, as I believe MrBigBee suggested in his post...so this will still give me a chance to make a sale upfront as soon as prospects register with added value of a free 30 second video.

Of course I'll have to charge a bit more, but they're still getting two videos for the price of one, which I'm hoping will increase conversions.

I'll be driving traffic with Facebook ads again, and I'm going to test this strategy first in just the chiro niche since this is where I've been doing well.

If the results are positive/successful, then I'll try the same strategy in the plumbing niche to see if I get any better results.

Thanks again for all your feedback so far, it's much appreciated.

Go to some competitors websites offering the same services.
Call them up or email them describing something like a project you may have done for a client in the past, find out what they'll be charging.

This gives you an idea what people are willing to pay. Of course you could go much higher or much lower (why) than them. It really all depends on how good of a seller you are and how much value the client sees in what you're offering.

      That's a good point.

I have done a little bit of research on what other companies are charging, but not very much, so I probably should do a little more so that I have a larger sample to compare to.

What do you mean by this? Prospects don't care about what you do, or how you do it. How much value is it going to provide? Is it going to make them a top dog by being ranked in the SERPS? Yeah it most definitely will. Will it show prospects that they are creative, ahead of the curve, and most importantly entertain and educate? Yes, if you do your job correctly it should. Explain these benefits. Let them know that it will make their competitors envious. Let them know it's going to perform for ages and ages for them. Price won't seem to matter much once your prospect understands these value propositions.

Hey there I really like your whiteboard videos. I am very new to offline marketing and I wanted to see if maybe I could offer this to local business in my small town area. How do you go about making the video or could you recommend be who you got to do this for you
