I'm just starting out offering my ppc management services, but I'm bit afraid that I started at the wrong time of the year. As a lot will soon be going on vacation, so I want ask you whats your experience selling during the summer? I have a rent to pay, so I'm really worried:confused:

To no fault of your own, this is subconscious head trash that your brain has constructed because you fear something, whether it's fear of success, fear of cold calling, fear of failure.

Summer is a great time to sell just as good as any other season....forget any fears you have and just do it. The longer you wait until you think something is "ready" the longer you go without succeeding and you may never start.

The time of year makes no difference. I speak from a few decades of experience. Like MaxwellB pointed out..your brain constructed the idea of "Best time of year" to justify not working. Summer is fine.

The only time i ever see a dip is between Christmas and New Year. And that's because I slow down, not the customers.

Thanks, I needed this encouragement. I got laid off, and I've decided to be my own boss. But the expenses, bills etc are really making it difficult for me to able to focus on selling and being positive. But I guess a lot of people started in the same situation as I'm today.

Gee Max, you used pretty much the identical words I'd use...good stuff.

@theOP: think about it this way--those prospects who ARE in to talk to you during the summer must be serious, right? Otherwise, why would they be there?

Unless you are planning on targeting businesses that sell fur coats and snowmobiles you should not have a problem.

Not trying to discourage you from ppc management BUT
If money is a big issue with you right now then I can think
of nothing easier to sell that will bring in money RIGHT NOW
than eddm postcards ala "Bob Ross method"

I see summer as more people being out looking for stuff to do/BUY and that they have more hours in a day to do stuff/BUY.
In many places local govt has been pushing staycations to promote staying local vs traveling.

Sign up 16 local businesses to a 3month summer long postcard program in the next 2 weeks ...1 ad per month and make a nice 9k to 12k+ profit with a third of that being upfront!

I think you should be fine... the internet market is huge... in fact, I think people will have more time to be online if they're not on vacation because they'll not be so absorbed in work.

Don't put your marketing on hold for that reason

You will be fine. Even if an owner goes on vacation this is small business. Most won't even leave their businesses for 10 days at a time. I doubt you will have any trouble finding out when they will be back and hitting them up then.

  • Just need to work a little harder....

PPC, SEO services do tend to trim down during the summer time.

Get out of that seat and go some local news paper promos

    Cheers!

I never even considered that summer might be bad. I hope a lot of people think that way! Maybe that explains why I do so well in the summer?

Hell, people talk about Sunday is a day of rest. I've made money on Sundays. When you are down, man you got to go ALL in. You don't have a job or income? You need to work seven days per week. This is not going to happen on it's own.

I believe your greatest challenge starting out - like most of us - is a huge underestimation of the amount of work you need to do. Whatever you think needs to be done to replace your income, multiply that X 10. Seriously.

How ever many sales you think you need to make to pay bills - multiply X 10.

Raise your goals by X 10 and plan accordingly. If you come up short on your "replace my income goal" you wont be able to pay the bills. If you come up short on your X 10 goals, you still doubled your income.

Let me tell you all I sell is PPC and I only started doing this for myself November 2012.

I was convinced January would be a fantastic month due to businesses wanting to start new campaigns for the new year unfortunately it didn't quite work out that way, January sucked!

My best month to date so far was last month this was despite it being the end and beginning of the tax year here in the UK, so again I wrongly assumed this would be the worst month.

The fact is between November and now I have learned tonnes of great ways to prospect and whether its a slower month or not I am still getting new clients every month.

Obviously there will be slower months, but the most important thing (in my opinion) is consistent prospecting, if I'm complacent and lazy I might get 1-2 new clients a month if I pull my finger out and put the work in I could easily get 2 a week.

Just get started and the results will follow
