I went to this. Review the speakers and their companies and you will get the idea.

Dealers are a huge market because they understand how important marketing is. But they (yes including me as an RV dealership) are flooded with cold emails and cold calls.

You can sell/offer many types of services:

    Rep Management
    Possibly local seo
Email marketing/retaining customers and promoting/ offering them discounts
    Video Marketing

There are a lot of things, that you can offer!

Having some contacts in the car dealership business, the two main things that are important to owners are:

        Reputation
        Leads

People discuss cars all the time and a dealership that gets a bad reputation can have a hard time recovering. A good reputation lands to new leads.

Also, if you can position a dealership website in front of it's target audience, the owner(s) will love you. Using Facebook and Google, this can be done effectively.

Main thing to keep in mind is they are like any other business, just with high-value transactions.

It will depend on the size of the dealership.

Small used car dealerships offer up the most opportunity. Web design (must be easy to use, upload cars, manage, etc), SEO, SEM, Rep management. Mobile, online inventory distribution, videos, social media

Large dealers will be tougher to get into as well as offer services becuase you need to understand and know how to work their dealer management systems and how to integrate them into the services you will offer.

Leads by far is the easiest thing to sell. $17-$20 (going rate) per lead with a fair refund policy.

Also what you sell has to play to your strengths. For me I would offer sales training and marketing consulting as those are my strengths and depending on the dealership I would get a few grand for a few days of work.

I have two clients who are used car dealers. But of them were acquired because neither had a web presence (website). You'd be surprised how many used car dealerships still don't have websites - yet almost all of them recognize the importance. If you're a developer and can make their website work for them (most important), there's money to be made in this market.

There IS competition - and a lot of it. So stand out.

PPC - you can create campaigns based on actual inventory, whereas with SEO by the time you could optimize for a particular vehicle it's likely been sold. Charging a PPC management fee of $1,500 - $2,200 per month isn't at all unreasonable.

Had to come back to this thread.

You're asking, "What can I sell to car dealerships?"

You should be asking, "What can I DO for car dealerships?"

I once just missed out on closing an independent used car dealership for a £500 a month SEO contract, only because they had already signed up with another local SEO provider just the day before. After I presented myself to them they said they would've rather gone with me but that's beside the point. I'm just trying to illustrate that even the little guys are willing to pay reasonably money per month for SEO (that was only for 3 local keywords).

The main reason these guys wanted to do it was because Autotrader, which was their main source of customers, had announced they were raising their prices sharply. As you should always establish what the client is spending on advertising currently anyway, especially online, you could ask this and then explain how the Google organic traffic in time could end up replacing the need for them to use Autotrader and cut out that future expense.

Those that are reading here will see a huge selling point if they are smart enough to recognize it.

Sell SEO to them. Just because they can sell cars doesn't mean that they can manage their internet site. If you can sell them that you'll take them further for cheaper then you're golden. Just don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Also - you probably could sell them on some sales seminars that can "make their sales go through the roof." One great one that I know of that focuses more on pyramid sales but is a stellar program is the GEMs course by Dani Johnson GEMS(tm) Mastery Is Here! | Dani Johnson

    The course is kick butt.

I sell local smaller car dealers, buy one, get one free pizza discount cards good for 10 uses, (see my signature below) that they use as an incentive gift for people to come in for a test drive, etc.

    All the best,

    Martin

I would focus on helping build dealership service departments, it is more profitable for them, and more overlooked. It also can create loyal customers and help develop relationships for future new car sales.

What the car dealership guys requires most is marketing services-leads generation.
If you good in marketing, consider offering them such services.
