Question for the Website Salesmen out there.

I've been trying to get my own marketing business started for almost a year now. Well, I believe my opportunity to earn some real funds to put back into my business. While I've been working my 9-5 at a grocery store, I've been talking back and forth with one of the locksmiths there. Landed me a shot at making them a website with a hopeful pricetag of about $1,000. (3-5 pages with a decent Themeforest theme)

Anyway, my question is this: Where do you go and how do you go about setting up the graphics/pictures if you're making a mock-up site to make sure thats what the business is wanting and how do you do this with next to no budget?

You can use graphics and photos from stock providers. They will be water marked but at least you can show him what it would look like with out needing to spend any money initially. If he likes them then buy them when he pays you.

Eventually you need to find a team of reliable outsourcers who can put together a mock-up for you so you don't have to worry about it.

Imagine having 10 locksmiths who want a website - eventually you run out of time. You cannot be the salesman and designer at the same time.

You should find a good webdesigner to do the actual website. The time you save will be well worth the money you spend. There are some really good ones advertising in the Warriors for Hire Section.

You may also want to offer them a Mobile Website as an upsell. Mobile websites are perfect for locksmiths, since most of the people who get locked out of their homes or cars won't be able to use their laptop or the yellow pages, they will find the locksmith they need by searching the internet using their smartphone.

I will say, it is wise to learn how to use Wordpress and design a website, just in case...
but do that in your free time.

If you can afford it, hire 1-3 web designers on oDesk to create a custom design, and show the potential client all of them. Then, take the rest, and pitch them to other similar clients.

I have mockup designs created all the time to show potential clients, and it almost always closes the deal, and it almost never costs me more than $25.

Once you have the money in hand from the client, you can pay $100-150 to have the design coded into Wordpress as a custom theme.

If you are just looking for stock images to use, you can find some decent free ones at Free Stock Photos & Images | StockFreeImages.com or go to Stock Photos: Download Stock Photography And Royalty Free Images By Dreamstime to find images with a subtle watermark (and in some cases, no watermark at all).
