How To Scoop Up SEO Clients

With the Google Animal Updates,
a lot of the search marketing firms
have lost rank for their clients.

Once you see from this example which follows,
I'm sure you can get creative enough and hunt down
SEO firms clients that have lost rank,
find out what went wrong, contact them and be
their saviour!

So lets rip into this example.

I typed into Google SEO Auckland.

I noticed the top ranked firm from about a year ago
is no longer there.

Only number ten for a Youtube video.

Here's the page...

Go into the video and their client talks what key word phrase
brought in the money...

The money words are Business Coach.

Type those 2 words into Google and his website is not seen on the first 10 pages.
Only in amongst the 7 pack.

Go into Majestic SEO Site Explorer and this shows up for the site...

Way too much use of the key word.

Bang a site dropper!

Next we see link farms...

And one of the link farms, like the others have no site relevance,
because there is no subject theme for the site.

That's the type of mess SEO firms are causing for their clients.
You've heard what the ranking was worth to the business coach.

Think the website owners are ready to dump these types of firms?

I'll leave that for you to work out.

Best,
Ewen

He's in the 7 box? I'd take that over first position ranking anyday.

And be vulnerable to be having the whole 7 pack pushed down?

That doesn't make sense to me.

        Ewen,

You're an elder - you have taught me a ton and I respect you.

With that said, your reply made no sense.

An organic result can beat out the 7 pack, therefore pushing it down.

OK, here's a screen shot of my cheap video pushing down the 7 pack.

I and others could put 1 or more video up above the 7 pack,
further moving it down the page and be less read.

If your listing is only in the 7 box then somebody
like me can push you down the rankings
and you can do nothing about it.

That's why I say you are at risk.

          Best,

But here is the problem with what you have displayed...

In one of the screenshots, for auckland seo, the company you said dropped in rank didn't really drop in rank. they are #1 in local, and actually have the strongest site in organic. They aren't ranking above local as only organic anymore because of a flaw in the algorithm that Google is working on from what I have been told. A company that has google authorship with the site, and has a local listing can also rank above the 7 pack, but a company that has the google local listing, with the merged google+ account, actually does not have a chance to rank above the 7 pack, and they get stuck just in the A spot of the local. If A+ SEO didn't merge their local listing with google+ they would be ranking #1 locally and #1 organically.

Another flaw in how the split results work, is that a strictly organic website with no local listing can easily rank above the pack, but other websites who are strong organically but don't have authorship, and have a google local listing, struggle to get another SERP spot with their website. So organically, until this issue is fixed, a company with no local listing has a better shot ranking above the 7 pack than a company that has a local listing. Messed up, ey?

The example you posted doesn't exactly make much of a point IMO, extreme longtail keyword with location in front isn't as effective as searching limo service + location or shuttle service + location or even airport shuttle service, or airport limo service. The video you posted isn't ranking for any of those other terms, just the exact match of the title term that you shared.

Agree 100% with the business coach keyword though.

Keep in mind that in many cases that "7 pack" is now being replaced by the "link carousel". So talking to the potential client, mention that carousel and you'll have them hooked.

I thought the carousel was only going to be very limited. Do you know the percentage of searches for local that it will show instead of the traditional 7 pack?

      • In 1st post Ewen said "Type those 2 words into Google and his website is not seen on the first 10 pages. Only in amongst the 7 pack.

If you are in the 7 pack that IS being listed on page 1. Google takes your organic and ADDs it to the blended local listing. So his pack listing is replacing his organic. That's the way it works. He's not missing.

Right now it's only for certain industries. Primarily restaurants and hotels and some related entertainment related categories.

Linda, can you shed any light on the new image carousel. If turns out that Google sticks with it, will it be rolled out across all results instead of just being hospitality and closely related niches?

I would also like to know this. I remember hearing that it would be restaurants, hotels, bars, night clubs, entertainment related. I can't imagine it being as much for doctor offices, tree services, roofers, but maybe I'm wrong.

On another note... completely off topic from that and this thread... assuming Linda comes back... Have you noticed brand logos showing on sites organically for Google+? Some have shown for some clients that don't even have the publisher tag... if so, this would be awesome. Really would love to see that happen since a lot of brands don't want authorship.

Unique and interesting but time is money and if you spend all this time initially researching and you don't convert its going to get old fast. They also got burned once which puts their guard up. Why not target clients on page 3 as they are close yet far away
