door hanger marketing

(new to these forums)

I am starting a pretty intensive new marketing tactic using door to door bags (hanging bags with a letter, brochure, reply card and business reply envelope).

I'm wondering if anyone would like to offer suggestions as to the effectiveness of this strategy and what kind of response rate you would expect.

Thanks

I have no input for you regarding your post, since it's outside my expertise, but you can easily edit it.

Should be interesting to see. Your standard door hangers yield a very low success rate.

However, different shapes can increase that a tad. Costs more to do, but if your ad is in a circle it seems to do better than your standard would.

No so great. I think 1% would be on the higher end of the range.
I did a door hanger campaign for a local theater - they got 2 returned on 500 pieces.

If it were a restaurant it would be higher I think.

So if my return rate is 1% then if I can consistently hit 1000 houses per month that should give me about 10 leads per month

That may be acceptable if the leads are good...possibly

I have found that door hanging alone can work, depending on the product, but it does have a pretty low return (an exception might be for some great deals on pizza delivery).

HOWEVER, I have found that leaving a door hanger and KNOCKING ON DOORS is very successful.

When you have an opportunity to TALK to people, your success rate skyrockets. The door hanger should only be left with no conversation if no one answers.

Of course, this means limiting your doorhanging efforts to times when people are home.

IF you get 1%. You may get less. Or you may get more.
I've had campaigns that completely failed. I've had others
that got one sale on 800 flyers.

Having a good name for your product or service can help.
    People remember names.

That is the question...can I get 1%....or, can I even move that number a bit higher.

I have included a reply card and a business reply envelope.

The reply card allows the prospect to mention if he is intersted in term life insurance, whole life insurance, health insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, college savings, retirement, 401krollovers, and a few other financial service offerings.

I'm also hoping that this helps me to cast a broad net, which should in turn help me to get responses.

There are a few members on here who sell insurance -- Sandalwood and Rearden. They get a large share of their business from hitting the phones. If you do a search here on WF you will see some of the tactics they use to sell insurance products.

I think the type of marketing you are suggesting will cheapen your insurance and investment products. Although I have responded to businesses who have left flyer, businesses cards and rock in bag notices for thing like yard services and hauling, I would not buy insurance or invest my retirement savings, with any business that used these methods. Your business would look 'sketchy' to me.

I'd buy a list of prospects from a company like infofree.com and hit the phones. I'd also make a list of every person I've ever met and call them for business and referrals.

Your return rate will be pretty low and I don't think it's efficient with all the efforts and time you invested on it. I agree that you should only leave them if there is no answer on the door. I think people will be more responsive if you talk to them personally. If you leave one on the door and the owner receives tons of mails, they'll hardly notice yours.

I think one of the factors of how successful a door hanger campaign will be is how often the consumers actually get door hangers on their doors.

We've been in our home 10 years (in New York) and last year was only the second time we ever had a door hanger placed on our door.(the first was from Cablevision) When I came home I was very curious as to what was hanging on my door. It was a fairly large door hanger from a local 7-11 with 5 vouchers for a FREE cup of coffee on each one.

I thought it was a great deal for the consumer and I'm sure it also worked great for 7-11. Each time I went for my free cup of coffee I always bought other items while I was there.

I think if you put a good offer on a door hanger you will get a great response especially in an area not used to receiving them.

I am working on a door hanger campaign for a car wash and I will post my results when it's finished.
