When is a review worth 100's of thousands of dollars?

When you provide services that facilitate the posting of fake reviews or you are personally caught posting fake reviews.

Glowing Reviews Sued by Edmunds.com, Alleged to Plant Fake Reviews | TIME.com

Some of you might recognize the service involved.

I'm thinking the next step is that a subpoena will be issued to get all of glowingreviews users account information. Every one who used that service invariably broke the law.

Would be nice to see the WF resident attorney Brian chime in on this topic.

Always knew it was a bad idea and figured sooner or later we would get the "land mark" case. This could be it. Should have known it would happen in the car world.

Curious about Brian's thoughts as well.

I was texting with Brian last night, he is in the same camp as me. Not good, not good that people offer services like as well.

I've heard that reputation dot com was also under investigation? This could absolutely turn the "industry" upside down...

Thomas, you have any links to stories about this?

No, I don't. It was on some forum, several months ago. At that time, I wasn't paying too much attention to it, but when you have a first major lawsuit, we are bound to see more companies begin or "continue" their inquiries or investigations...

The previous consensus was that when RM companies create fake user accounts and post fake reviews, it violates sites' rules, but it's not worth it to do anything about it (besides removing those fake reviews). Now, it will become "worth" it.

Always recommended that my clients in the past should work more on creating a system for naturally getting reviews as opposed to taking the easy route and putting up fake ones. Something like this needed to happen.

A local car dealer does a fantastic job of getting reviews. They have over 250 (!) 5-Star reviews on Google alone.

Their entire business is geared toward making people love them. Before you leave, they give you a water bottle, a piece of good chocolate, and a paper that let's you know how important you are.

That paper also list 7 different social media and review sites and asks you to go leave reviews at any you are a member of.

Then, two days later, they phone you back, ask you if everything is still great with your car and if you have any questions or problems. Then they ask if you still have the paper and if you will go and leave the reviews. "We try very hard to make sure you are happy - it would help us tremendously if you could leave some reviews for us."

This is a major local Acura dealer. They do the same process whether you buy a car or are just getting service.

There is no need to fake the reviews!
