Life Insurance Leads Build Sites or Direct mail?

I have several lead sites related to roofing and HVAC work, they don't kill it but I make monthly income off of them.

But I have been asked by a friend to build him some sites to supply his need for Life Insurance Leads. Because of his State Licensing rules I need to be state specific.

Am I better off with a State Name Keyword domain or a City Name keyword domain?

His budget is pretty low and he is a GOOD friend so I don't have any money to waste.

He has also mentioned Direct Mail, but I have not mailed for years. Best bet a Post Card or A letter?

Please share your opinion.

Joey

Online lead gen through PPC or SEO will likely be less expensive than direct mail.

As for going state or local. That will depend how big his local area is (can he get enough clients locally) and how comfortable he is closing over the phone (for people too far away to drive to his office).

    Thanks James,

I went ahead and picked up a domain "TermLifeCityName".com if he gets two or three leads a month it will pay off for him.

These guys are crazy about direct mail thought. I need to check out a few list companies.

Using this list finder Mailing List Finder -- Search & Compare Mailing Lists, you'll get a sense of how targeted you can go.

The narrower the targeting you can go
will get you a higher ROI.

For example, here is a list you can get for those that have known medical
conditions if you are going after health insurance. Complete Medical's Ailments, Illnesses and Medical Conditions Mailing List

You can go deeper and narrower to those that are diabetics.

Then there are those which are compiled lists and there are those that are
      one company's list of buyers.

The house list is going to be better than a compiled list.

There are qualifiers too, but that will get you started.

      Best,
      Ewen

What market is he selling to? Mortgage, final expenses, something else?

All life insurance agents know internet leads suck the big one.

    Worst leads in the business.

I prefer direct mail, business reply cards.

Your goal should be to generate him leads, of which he can set appointments with, or better yet, drop in in-person with the response card in hand to see them immediately.

Sorry about the delay in posting I have been on Vacation. I love Perdito Key.

He is selling life and long term care.

@Rearden....how do the Business Reply Cards work? I am doing direct mail for him using Recent Births, Marriages and Home Purchases. We are only mailing like 100 a week to start. (Yes I know that is small but her is fresh to the business and still has a J.O.B.)

@Ewen thanks for the information on the lists. I have bookmarked it for future reference.

    Chew on this:

    Why mail to begin with?

If you know new home purchasing, why not just go see them in person?

Show up and ask for an appointment.

I will tell you from a recent experience of having to help my mother in law with finding long term care insurance, there is without question a lot of traction that could be gained in this market.

I would mark the overall experience up to one of the most confusing non informational aspects of the internet I have ever seen. It really was just short of insanity. We ended up taking a referral from her financial planner. And the only reason we ended up there, is because many of her "friends" and other folks we were asking - including her brother stated that's where they found a solution / provider.

So obviously start reaching out to "Financial Planners".

As broad targeted as you can I would suggest placing some well written, easy to understand content. what to look for, what to stay away from. understanding time and financial limits etc. At the bottom of each and every article... notice I said bottom. you will want to obviously have a call to action. "In the XX area? for further information and a quote call XXX XXX XXXX.

      Hope that Helps
