Guys: Pick Jason Kanigan's Brain For A Buck!

Guys; I just found this on Amazon.

Jason Kanigan is our resident genius on Cold Calling.

He finally put a huge chunk of his best stuff in a short book titled. Why Cold Calling Doesn't Work.

It's a quick read, and I'm leaving a glowing review tonight. It's only a buck until Jason follows my advice and raises the price to at least $3.99.

A review of the book would be a great gesture too.

Here you go. Enjoy.

Jason didn't ask me to do this. I found his book, and am really high on it. Dig in.

Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds even cheaper in £ at just 77 pence! I'm gonna give it a try, just downloaded it for the Kindle app on my android phone. BTW it's free to "borrow" if you're an Amazon Prime customer!

Oooh! Just got my first 1 Star HATER review! Yeah! I'm doing something right!

Did you know that this information is "easily found"?! It is! That's why people keep coming onto this forum, calling me up for help, PMing and emailing me for two years now! Right! That's why they ask for help from Claude, Ewen, MisterMe, TheBigBee and many other people! Because this stuff is so obvious, salespeople at big companies don't know how to do it.

Did you know putting one link at the end to your site is WRONG? That no one should link anyone to more information, EVER?!

    Oh noes!

Bury the haters and leave your review!

Oh and since David Ellison is such a brainiac, why not ask him where HIS book is?!

There is always one, sometimes more. Agreed. But as I always tell my local clients, make sure you respond in a respectful manner and always be more than accommodating. That way, others who DO read reviews will have even MORE confidence in doing business with YOU.

With respect, I would remove your comment to the review in question, as it makes you come across as unprofessional - esp. to those who do not know you. Can't say I've seen any authors of books responding the way you did. Just sayin'.

Otherwise, good luck on your book marketing Jason.

Now question for you Jason, and Claude as well I suppose. Why $3.99 or $.99 cents, when both of you charge top dollar for your other services? Is it actually designed to be a sales funnel at that price?

'Cuz I want it to be affordable for people. When they are spending $18 for a hardcover book in a store for a well-known author, charging the same for a kindle book doesn't seem right. Plus there is price sensitivity for this stuff.

And what is "top dollar"? Have you seen how much a regular old bricks-and-mortar sales trainer charges? Like $15,000.

I have not seen, no. But I do see a lot of sales books on Amazon for much more (kindle or otherwise), so that is why I was wondering. Just wanted to know strategy behind it, as I was considering my own.

Marty; My print books are more. But the Kindle books are priced to maximizes distribution.

So far, my books are just the start of a marketing funnel. Although as I write more of them, the income will become more meaningful from the book sales.

For example; At $12.00 my Kindle books may sell 15 a month each. At $3.99 they may sell a hundred copies or more each. Same profit at the lower price (or more) but far bigger distribution. $10 for a print book is considered a pretty good deal. But $10 for a Kindle business book? Not competitive.

Unless I would try my hand at fiction, my books will always be the start of a marketing funnel. Writing business books as a profession is nearly a guaranteed fail. Most business books published by the big publishers and sold in bookstores never sell out of the first 5,000 printing. That's a few thousand dollars (on the high side) for writing and promoting a book.

A labor of love, not an income producer. Unless you write a process business book that will apply to nearly any businessperson or salesperson.

Jason; I got a one star review once on my small business advertising book. It hurt pretty badly. You can't help but take these things personally. But I thought about it and realized that the reader was buying my book thinking it covered something it didn't.

So I rewrote the book description to be more accurate, and wrote a good response to the review. Now, anyone reading his review and my response will have at least a perspective as to why the review was one star.

Of course, the review eventually got buried among the four and five star reviews.

Go look at any great book on any subject. They all have one star reviews.
Sometimes people have completely different expectations of what's going to be in the book.

And if you look at their other reviews...you usually see mostly one star reviews. HA! But in my case, the one star review was actually understandable.

He worked for an advertising agency that sells image advertising...something I bash quite a lot in the book. So I understand.....I even told him to return it for a refund.

Oh,and about 10% of my Kindle sales ask for a refund. Never a paperback book, just the Kindle books. But of course, it's a way to read a book for free, so I get it.

My books are so great, people are downloading them illegally! I'm a Rock Star!

Anyway, you got a 1`star review. Now you're no longer a virgin. Cheer up, at least you don't have stalkers yet.

I'm surprised at that refund rate.

        Is this the norm Claude?

Ewen; Apparently, it's the norm for me.

I suppose so. I don't have hard data to share from the industry. I know I've never been asked for a refund from the hundreds and hundreds of paperbacks books I've sold. So I assume it's the fact that you can read a Kindle book, and then "return" it effortlessly for a refund.

I do know that the vast majority of favors asked are from the free download readers. And none of them have become clients yet. Kindle buyers are a little better. At least they have a few dollars invested.

The "real printed" book customer is a different cat. I know that will change, most books I sell now are Kindle books....but so far, that's my experience.

Guess I've been lucky so far...but I'm sure have far fewer sales than you, Claude.

10% seems high to me, but I know I miss out a lot on customers I *could* get that come along with more refunds.

Jason; Many of my book listings are on Kindle book sites where the books are either free or very cheap (Maybe a buck). So you get a lot of people that are...well...cheap.

And you get serial refunders. Again, in the paperback versions, I don't think I've ever had a refund...but if this were an affiliate sold clickbank product? 10% is pretty good.

but the beautiful thing is, I never know about refunds until the end of the month, and then it's a number on a report. It's hard to take personally.
