Generating Niche leads

Hey Warriors,
I've been approached with the prospect of generating some pretty specific leads now a couple of times, in the latest case it's been somebody offering training looking for companies with the budget to hire them or companies looking for bespoke training.
As it's not the typical sort of lead and he's looking for a list of upfront leads (at least initially) does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find leads? Or are you reading this and think it's too specific to look for and he should be getting the leads to find him?

The guy sounds like he has no real experience with this type of training or dealing with corporations. I wouldn't touch him with a 50 meter pole.

(I put it meters since you're in the UK )

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear - he's looking for leads for his training company- not training people to find leads! His training has nothing to do with that, it's a sort of self-help/NLP training or something but he's looking for companies that would be interested in his training. Or individuals to join group training. I have a few lead finder tools but I don't think it's possible to get such focused leads just like that?

  • Is it what Gary Halbert calls a "starving market?" In other words, are companies right now hiring self help/nlp training? If not, it may be a non-starter.

If so, who are the companies? New age companies? Huge multinationals trying to offer "wellness" to employees? What industries are they in?

Who is selling self help/nlp services to these companies now? Who leads the market? How are they getting to these clients? What marketing methods do they use?

What makes your client different from the #1, 2 and 3 companies? How would you position your client against these other providers? Higher quality? Better results? Lower prices? Local provider? What's the USP?

What have they tried so far? PPC? SEO? Publicity? Cold calls? Direct mail? Event marketing? Kindle publishing? Public speaking? What were the results? How much budget do they have?

Marketing is not a battle of products. It is a battle of perceptions.

Advise him to hire appointment setters or hire a telemarketer. These kinds of leads are better generated through those means.

He is looking for those company who needs training right? What kind of training? How big is the company he is targeting? These kinds of questions are better answered and qualified by a telemarketer.

Thanks for all the responses. The enquiry came from peopleperhour - someone approached me. I've decided to leave it as it's not worth my time but it's definitely good to have an idea of what to do in these situations so thanks for all your replies.
For the record, it was someone selling NLP training or bespoke training to small-medium size companies or individuals who want to attend group training. He gave me the USP etc but he was after contacts in relevant companies which left the net quite wide but the price he wanted to pay left it not worth it.

When you come across similar to this, I agree that telemarketers are excellent for this and results can be faster.
