I'm going to Climb Kilimanjaro - 10K in 5 weeks?

I'm climbing Kilimanjaro in 5 weeks... Leaving to Tanzania on the 9th of october... so It's time for me to produce 10K selling offline services.

I'm starting tomorrow, from scratch with a brand new range of services.

I will focusing in SEO and Online reputation management.

I already make a full living from SEO ... but in the next 5 weeks I will be doing everything from scratch.
New Offer. New Range of Service. New Approach.

Hopefully I can share it here, and inspire some warriors before I head to conquer the highest standing mountain in the world .

The plan:

Outsource 85% of the lead generation.
Close deals on the Phone.
I live in a tiny tiny town so I will not travel to close a deal.
Every deal will range from $400 per month to $100 per month.

Biggest concern:
Online reputation management is not my strongest point.
Want to focus on recurrent clients vs one time clients.
Failure
Although I love to outsource, I hate to manage many outsourcers.

Why 10K?

Sounds nice.
I need $3500 to donate 10 cows to an Orphanage in Kilimanjaro
I want to showcase that if you achieve 10K then every month after that you will be making MORE than 10K. Considering you increase your recurrent income based.

Lead generation venues:
Email (cold emailing baby)
Facebook direct messages
linkedin Messages (never tested but why not)
Forums, groups, etc.

Other venues?
Stealth Webinar....
Facebook ads
(not sure about both of them....)

Day 1: Building a team. I'm going to hire 4 outsourcers. Ooops yes, 4.
All the 4 will be for lead generation. 8 hours per day x 5 days per week.
The goal for each of them is to send at least 80 emails per day. So this will get me around 300+ emails daily.

How to get the emails is a different story.....

    End of day 1:
OK. So today was a semi failure.... although I posted a job add, I got over 50 "requests on my skype" . tomorrow I plan to hire 4.

I have been thinking how to organize the 4 outsourcers and I have decided to call them with superhero names. (my 2 boys love superheros) - in that way is easy to replace them and identify their tasks .

Superman - Will be emailing directly from emails hosted in the domain name. He will be offering only reputation management services. The offer will be direct - can we help you?

Hulk - Will be emailing for SEO. Mainly it will focus on a NICHE + City approach, the approach will be on offering an SEO Audit (video) towards improving the ranking. the emails will go with my name attached.

SpiderMan - Will be emailing SEO. Mainly sites with mega problems. No google places, only flash... or even no optimized title. Again this will be a niche approach.

Wolverine - SEO. but this time via targeted email. less emails. but way targeted. Instead of 50 emails, this super VA will send around 10 with a semi proposal and sending it to a few members of the company.

    Let see how they go....

    Day 2:
    Not as easy as expected.

My team is almost ready but I have decided to wait 1 more day before letting them wild emailing .....

Mainly I want to be sure I have their roles very clear and that I can replace the quickly in case they quit.
(I have been hiring outsourcers and they usually start ultra-pumped... 3 days later they are out)

I have almost everything for the Online reputation management. that funny wise I sold 1 year ago and I hired one outsourcer to do lead generation. She did 5 weeks, and then got 1 deal closed.
The deal was worth $2600 and the costs of having her was $350....
and for some weird reason... I stopped my project?????

the important point in this process is to understand that to achieve results, i need to have a very clear ROI.
If paying for an outsourcer brings me 1 lead per week... then this strategy will work fantastic.

    10K in 5 weeks = $2000 per week.
    $400 per working day.

    love the challenge.

    any questions?

Why have you decided on outbound sales?

I'm thinking you could replace those 4 "superheroes" with a well targeted Adwords/FB/LI PPC campaign, just spend their wages on clicks.

Much more reliable in terms of inbound leads, and LI is actually a decent medium for finding rep man clients. It also has by far my highest conversion rate from any adwords campaign, inbound leads for rep man are basically begging to give you money.

Plus at my current rate, you'd only need 3 clients to hit your target and you'd have a nice little residual coming in too. £3000 setup, £1000 p/m.

Less management, same outgoings and more revenue.

The problem only really comes with fulfillment, rep man can be very time consuming if you don't know what you're doing.

love the point - to be honest, I believe cold contact is the way to go. I can test 100% different approach and experiment.
To work on paid traffic I'm competing vs the big boys in the SEO industry.
I'm paying $70 per week per VA = that means $280 per week for the team.
A bit more than $1000 for a full month.

Not sure how much traffic you can get for a whole month using $1000. May be Facebook ads could work... but in this case, I believe I need a success of 1 lead per week to convert from 1 VA to make it worth it....

But I like your approach. I'm just not good at paid traffic.

Well, why not just put the emails you have in some mail blasting software? Also, to which point do you plan to scale it?

      Then there is zero strategy.
      I'm not spamming I'm targeting.
I need my VA's to think.
A blasting software produces the same email over and over and makes me 100% the same as the spammer in Nigeria.
All those emails have my name on it... I'm not going to blast 1000 emails in 1 day pressing SEND.

      When to scale?
I believe having 4 VA's is enough for me at the moment. I'm making around 15K - 20K per month at the moment.... so I don't plan to move to the Philippines hire a call center and recruit 100 people.

Not sure if that's the path I want to take.

    Day 3:
Not one single email sent. Superman is ready to start today. Today is Friday and I don't work on Fridays... (since the last year I spend Fridays with my 4 year old son).
But hopefully this first experiment will get the ball rolling.

On Monday I will have the whole team ready.
So literally it will leave from the 2nd of September to the 8th of October to make $10.000

A bit less than 5 weeks.

    Stressed? A bit.

I forgot how much time it takes to build proper tutorials for outsourcers... and how difficult is to have enough leads for them to be busy.

So.... today (Friday 9:31 am - Australia time) is the first day of real pitching with only 1 outsourcer....

    here we go....

Day 4: Started late. I realized how bad my training material was for my first outsourcer.
Superman the outsourcer job is to target hotel with bad reputations.
    Emails sent: around 80.
    Replies: None
All of them with screenshots pointing to bad reviews in Google places.

Today is Saturday and I'm at the office working in the training material for SEO.... on Monday the team of 3 VA's will start and I need to be sure the training material is amazing.

The less questions they ask me , the more I can work in improving the tutorials.

    How do I provide tutorials?
In Camtasia videos and then uploaded in youtube (no listed) and then embeded in a page .
I'm thinking in making a private wiki so every time they ask me a question I improve the master wiki.

I'm also a bit concern about how we are going to send so many emails... so i have different domain names, the maximum amount of emails per hosting will be limited to 50 so that means in the worse case scenario they will send 750 emails in the 1st week.
I just need a conversion of 0.%5 to make this game viable.

Again the point is not to spam people.
The leads my VA get are only from companies we think we can help.
Some of them are perfectly OK, therefore they don't need assistance at first glance.

Good luck on your journey. I have 2 major questions for you and I really feel if you think about the answer you'll realize you're not leveraging your time or va's as effective.

Why are you making everything you doing about a one shot deal?

These people don't know you, you're cold targeting them and they probably have 50 other emails saying the same thing in their inbox. Get the lead and then close and follow up for non-closed. This way you're not just shooting stuff out and hoping something sticks.

2nd major question and promise you if you really think on this today, you'll thank me...

Are you positioning yourself correctly to reach your goal?

Unfortunately the answer is no, so then you need to make sure you start positioning yourself correctly.

Hurry up, you got some climbing to do soon.

      Fair point.
      Am I position myself properly?
Well my business already makes $250.000 per year from SEO, so.... I'm not sending the typical Indian Spam you expect to sent.

I'm not sending an email asking them to buy now.
I'm sending them an email to open the doors for a potential email follow up or hopefully an email.

It's a bit difficult to you to measure how I position myself without even knowing
      a) what I'm offering
      b) who am I contacting
      c) Who I am

      Some other questions...

Do I believe cold emailing works?
      Hell yes.
Do I have all the answers?
      No.
Do I believe testing different approaches and markets is the way to go?
      Yes.

10K in 5 weeks is easy.... I could do it by calling some existing clients and upselling them any stuff I want.

But the goal here is to start from scratch... just like you do it when you climb Kilimanjaro.
The goal here is to be humble, and to learn from my mistakes and help people out here to learn also.

      Step by step. Slowly... slowly.....

How do you know they get the same type of email?

If I wrote the same type of email to every single person... then where is the strategy my friend?

      ^_^

How many plumbers in "CITY" get an email inviting them to a webinar about marketing for plumbers?

How many Wedding photographers in "CITY A" get an email inviting them for a phone chat to explain them how I got a wedding photographer in CITY B ranking in top 3 in Google...

      Get the point?

And regarding the ... they don't know me.... you bet they don't. That's the whole point.... I want them to know me. Email is just the first step.

        Hey Ranking Hero-
I congratulate on your steps. I was replying back on what you put as far as when you put...

        Lead generation venues:
        Email (cold emailing baby)

Emailing works and I do it all the time for myself and clients, but...

If you're trying to reach your goal, I'm saying then bringing them into your email funnel will be way more effective then trying to get a 1 shot transaction from emails.

I do copy, marketing and seo and get emails every day from people from out of the country and in that offer to help. My point is...

Are some of good, maybe...are some of them scammers, probably but I'm never going to talk to them because they approached me wrong and don't even know me.

I don't know what you're saying exactly in your emails, but if you want more people to listen then get them to give you their email and then send them info so you are more effective.

Cold Emailing can work and so can cold calling, but why bother when you can use direct response and have them call you. Flips the positioning and leverages your time and results. All I was saying. Email people who know you or atleast wanted you to email them and you'll be spending time with quality versus quantity.

This way people are calling you and wanting to hear about what you have.

Either way...good luck on your mountain hike and nice work on the contributions to the kids.

Yes. I agree... and that is a danger of the strategy.

I guess the goal is to ignite a potential chat on the phone and to filter the once that are potentially interested.

The email need to be very very very niche and precise to get their attention.

I will love to do the direct response... but in this case I just want to target the whole lead generation using outsourcers. the whole cost will be around $1100... for 1 month or so... so not a bad option to really really test email conversion.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback - you made me think. That's always great.

Thanks for the kind words man....

Day 7 (I consider the last 2 days of the weekend as days off)

So outsourcers are ready for SEO leads and today we sent 50 new emails for online reputation management .... no SEO emailing today.

    We got 2 replies.
one nasty, one 'give me a call this week"

    ultra excited ? No really.
But we just did 50 emails so I can't really expect a lot.
tomorrow will not be 2 fast either.

I'm finding challenging getting enough leads to get the outsourcers busy. I want to be able to provide them enough leads so they can be busy the whole week.....

As an interesting insight : My 3 VA's for SEO will be managed by a 4th outsourcer. (the manager) . For the 1st time ever I'm going to hire someone else team....
don't feel 100% confident about this, I always had my team but i know how difficult managing more than 3 VA's can be .... plus my trip to Africa is just 1 month away and I have a lot of personal stuff, business, and coaching to do ...
that's why I want to give it a shot to let someone else manage those 3 lead generators

How will I check if it's working or not.

Awesome. So 1st sale from SEO. Very pumped!

How is the Online reputation management. Got on call today, the guy almost screamed at the phone and told me to !@*!@&@! off .
