What are your 3 biggest frustrations in growing your video production business?

I'm doing research to see if there is a common thread to what's frustrating video producers & freelance videographers, so I could really use your feed back on this. Feel free to mention more than just three if you have a few other business growth frustrations. For me... one of my frustrations was the rollercoaster cash flow. As soon as I went into production, I wasn't out closing deals and my income would go down until I could get back out selling. We have since solved this problem but it was a biggie. Some have told me that budgets have dried up over the past three years. What's bugging you?

It seems like you use professional equipment, camera, mics, decent editing... I have only looked at one and I struggle to figure out what in the world they are pitching.

Anyway - video is tough to sell just outright. When I packaged in my stuff with video SEO (videos will bring in customers), then the prospecting part becomes easier because you do Google searches in client presentation and wow them; "your video right there in Google too."

I have to agree with BigBee. The video SEO part is what makes the difference.

There have been quite a few discussions of late about level of quality that's offered and what types of videos to do. I always ask, after finding out what type of video is wanted, 'what do you plan on doing with it?'.

If it's something that will just be slapped onto a website, to me it's (not totally) wasted effort. But run it out on the Internet in a broader fashion, now you have something that will generate traffic to the website.

As to your 'budget drying up' statement, I have heard that too and work things the same way as BigBee. Offer it as a 'marketing solution' and somehow the money spent is shown in a different light.

Video is growing at a rapid rate and it's all about content. What frustrates me is the lack of knowledge on the costs and benefits.

I love producing videos but how does it benefit my business if everyone wants something for free? By converting my website to a subscription model. This way I either get paid for services (licensing, video production, sponsored content, etc.) or numbers from membership which I can use as leverage. I don't sell the services, I sell the product and results. The services will follow.

There are always solutions to ease your frustrations.

It's great how everyone who responded offered solutions to frustrations. Thanks, everyone. You guys are awesome.

What I'm looking for are frustrations from people in the business or frustrations from people who have tried to hire professionals to produce videos. I'm looking for the pain points to see what the most common issues are... not solutions to the frustrations... at least not right now. That comes later if we're going to do a launch based on meeting the need.
