counting money in front of customers

just a tip I picked up over the years for PR . When a computer client here in Honolulu Hawaii, pays me in cash, I look at him/her and ask if he/she minds if I double check holding the money up in my hand. The computer client always says no go right ahead.

After counting I put it away and explain someone overpaid me by $20,00 one time. Now the computer client knows I counted the money for both our benefits.

It's the little things that get the repeat business.

I do this also. It helps the customer feel at ease knowing they are doing business with an honest person.

I always just assume when someone pays cash they count it and you count it.

Never gone beyond that. If it doesn't come out right I recount. Too much I give back. Too little I hand to them to count again.

I always count cash out in front of th buyer. Later it's too late. No amount of complaining will convince someone that they shorted you. So I always do it in full view of the buyer.

Nobody has ever asked me why I'm counting, but if they did...

When money changes hands you count it.

It is a common courtesy as well as common sense.

Even when money exchanges hand in our family, we all count it.
Has nothing to do with trust.

Agreed! We are all human, anyone can make a mistake. This is good advice for all to follow. Coming from a retail background this has always been common practice for myself and all sales associates I trained. The one time you don't count is when you can expect to find a discrepancy afterwards, of course it will be too late by then!

Well if someone was on the back foot a bit when you counted the money in front of them maybe they're a sensitive person and they're giving off the vibe that they think you're money focused and not customer focused when you start counting the money and you re-frame with that little one liner I think it's subtle and brilliant to be honest.

I know that we're all mature highly evolved people who don't need to make excuses for our actions and I know that we don't sweat the little things but we are not our customers and as hometutor said its the little things that get the repeat business.

I rate it, more tips like this please
