Hi,
There may be an opportunity to help an automotive repair business with their marketing however I need some advice around what the best services would be to sell to this type of business.
Thanks

Have you interviewed the owner to see where he wants help?

You match the service to what requires the most urgent attention.

Like a doctor diagnosing before he prescribes.

      Hi Ewen,
I understand what you mean, I thought it would be better if I prepared myself before hand with some possible solutions to common problems with this type of business.
      Thanks

In fairness to the repair shop owner,
he wants to know what you are talking about
when coming up with a solution he agrees he needs.

Therefore if you uncover what's really needed and don't have the expertise in that area, you can direct him to someone who has.

Your best bet is talking with these business owners first because it's they who give you the insights
to find the message which matches them.

        Not another marketer.

If I had of listened to other lawnmowing contractors as to what is the best message to attract clients, I would of been seen just like everybody else.

Instead I listened to prospective buyers. and what they were bitching about.

They wanted to hear about those problems and if you understood what it meant and what you were going to do about it.

        That was the breakthrough.

        Best,
        Ewen

The foundation of any local business regardless of the niche, local 7 pack, decent website, videos, of course the higher up the serps the better for the last 2.

    Pitch to fix those first.

If the business has those in place, then focus on how they deal with present and past customers, up, down and cross sells. This will highlight profit leaks (staff not answering the phones correctly for example), and generate extra revenue fast.

Not only let him post on FB, Twitter and more, advice him to look more deep, more niche. I own a social network for cars and tuning, that might help him as well.

I have a friend who owns an auto repair business and he can fix about any type of vehicle, large or small. When he was in Iraq, he had to fabricate parts.

Anyhow, he is now specializing in Jag/Rover, Prius and other hybrids, and his newly discovered niche market of big work vans like the Sprinter. The big work vans need to be kept on the road or they lose money and he can offer faster turn around times than the dealers.

I create videos (among other things) for my clients, and many of them are automobile repair shops.

      The videos are live. And in the descriptions I make sure I have ;
The services offered by the shop
The areas they serve (draw business from)
The makes of automobile they work on
The brands of tires, etc. they sell.

They also get a website, a mobile website, and I work on their Google Plus listing.

If you get them a few page one Google listings, they'll be happy.

        Thanks for all the feedback.

Claude, could you please clarify what you mean by live videos.

        Thanks

Meaning I video the owner live at their business, talking about problems that customers have with their cars, and a tip on how to diagnose the problem. These are really commercials, but they each contain real information too. They are partially scripted.

Then I upload them to Youtube and write a description with all the needed keywords included.

If a client is local, I always get live videos of their location, and the owner talking about the business. If the client is out of the area, I use animated videos...and some slide show videos for links.

I have a client who does direct mail for multiple
            auto repair shops.

            An option not mentioned.

Step aside kids....lol....I was auto repair/gas station owner for 18 years until I got into Internet/Social Media Marketing in 2007 and I still own a repair shop that I currently lease out and help them with marketing. :-)

#1 Make sure they have a Mobile Site
    #2 Google Places/Local/Brand Pages - HUGE
#3 Google Adwords still rocks and low cost
#4 Facebook Ads, target Zip Code around repair shop
#5 Content Marketing - Blog, Articles, Press Releases
#6 Use Facebook Deals, Google Offers and Foursquare Check Ins to track results
    #7 Video Marketing - I agree...was mentioned above

P.S. Wanna see something funny? Google "point loma auto repair" Video I did in 2008 is still on Page One, cracks me up. One of first videos I ever did....don't laugh....

not a single business wants to buy any services. but they will buy results. Ask them what results they are looking for and then prescribe a plan to get them there.

I'd have to say sdentrepreneur hit the nail on the head!

Google places (or whatever they call it now) alone can really boost their business. I'd then work on getting them a really positive reputation online by pushing for positive reviews.

    Hope that helps!
