Of course, you just need to pick up the phone and make some sales calls! The only thing that it will cost you is your phone bill and your time.

Both the phone bill and time should have a dollar value attached to them. So in my opinion, no, you can't start with $0.

My advice is to get a pretty much, steady stream of income coming in, most likely from a job, and then build your business part-time around that.

You could build your business without meeting business owners face to face. Whether through emails, phone calls, webinars, etc.

Well the phone bill and time is definitely not a problem for me

If you're not yet successful, you're time doesn't have a dollar sign attached.

My advice: do these things, in this order

        1) define your target market
        2) make a list of 50 prospect with outdated websites that fit criteria from #1
        3) call those prospect, every day until you get a firm NO from each

Don't expect things to happen all at once. Results beget results.

Forget the phone....For now. Get some nice business cards, get out into your community and start shaking hands of the small business owners in your community. Build up a reputation as a guy they can go to for advice in all aspects of online marketing. Most business owners slap up a website, and that's about it. Offer to show them how they can get better conversions, more leads and better SEO results by tweeking their website - give them information for free the watch as the Law of Reciprocation takes effect. When they call you, now it's time to set up some meeting & show them the solutions you have to their marketing problems.

You don't need to buy any books if you don't know what you want to do. People have this notion of the 'offliner' that is very off. Don't think of yourself as an 'offliner' (this word means nothing, it's just a keyword that people use to market to people who want to be 'offliners').

In your OP you did not mention what you wanted to do, or what you can do. Do you have any skills? can you piece together a wordpress site with a template? Can you setup an adwords campaign? can you unclog a toilet? etc.

Find out what you can do, and then search for that 'How to start web design business', 'How to start small marketing firm', 'How to start [insert biz idea here]' etc. Searches like that will return much better, and focused, results than looking for 'offliner material' will. Trust me.

Target down to what your skills are and see how you can monetize them.

And a last note. If your looking for a quick buck your in the wrong place. With that mentality you will just end up getting swindled out of 5-10 dollar bills many times for 'resources' without making any money.

This makes my top 10 for the year.

Love this. If anything in the real world most "offliners" would actually be considered "Online Marketing Consultants".

I really hope no one here actually introduces themselves as an Offline Marketer or Offliner. If so that might explain why people seem to have so much trouble selling their services.

Yeah you can, if you want to work in SEO then get a client first, make them give you money and then use that money to fulfill the service.

They should all know that SEO takes time so won't expect results straight away.

Might be a handy guide knocking around here somewhere.

  • Approach some local businesses and offer to promote their services for a small commision or free for the first month. Make up some discount code to give to your customers and this can also be used as a tracking code to claim commision from the companies

To be honest, if you read through these threads a little bit you should easily realize yourself that start capital isn't needed.

Capital is only required if you don't have time + knowledge.

In everything you do in this business you will always be expending one of these 3 things.

Before you decide on the method to reach your prospects,
      you need these things first.

Because if you don't have them, even money will not help you.

      Those 2 things are...

1 Have a real big advantage for the business owner
      /decision maker

2 Your presentation of it is set so the buyer gets it
fast...and much faster than you would expect.

      Best,
      Ewen
