I've been preaching against this sort of activity for over a year now. LOL But where's there's big money to be made the shady folks are more then willing to do whatever it takes to make it.

A few associates of mine have employed the use of such companies to help clients get their new businesses established... definitely circumvents the system in a lot of ways. Absolutely not legal or morally sound.

Yup, some companies will do whatever it takes just to get their brand noticed.

Going the unethical route is never the right idea. You should strive to help create a good brand for your offline clients, and doing unethical things is only going to hurt their business.

The author didn't shed any light on how this "crackdown" would be implemented, proven, executed, carried out, etc... I'm guessing the authorities here would eventually need lots of proof, warrants, evidence and whatever else one would normally expect to see utilized in the dynamics of arrest leading up to prosecution. Would the process be just as simple as tracking down the reviewers (good or bad) and verify that the reviewer exists and that he did in fact write the review based on his own experience? Where would an investigator start?

Yes they did, they posed as a Yogurt shop owner and posted ads on Craigs list and other outsourcing sites soliciting the need for reviewers.
