How to make at least $2,500 during High School Graduation

I'm going to start by introducing myself since I'm new to this forum. My name's Mike, and I used to work as a marketing consultant for a novice Elected Official who was set to run for re-election against a feared-to-be strong opponent in a little over a year. During that time I helped the elected official get noticed by exhausting each and every offline marketing technique we (partner and I) could think of. To say the least, Mr. Elected Official won by a margin of 3 to 1. And needless to say, he became very popular and well-liked.

Anyway, down to the nitty-gritty.

One of the things we concluded from this pleasure-filled experience is that people like free stuff (oh duh), and many businesses like to support and help our youth and education. So, this brings me to the main point: How to make at least $2,500 during High School Graduation.

This project is very simple and basic, nothing innovative or new. But of course, it's profitable and effective given the proper time to execute and effort put in to it. You are going to need to do some design work or hire someone to do it for you.

Visit locally owned businesses and public servants, and offer them to buy ad space on a back-sack (see the link below) that you will be giving out for FREE to graduating high school seniors on xxx date. The back-sack will be in school colors (orange/white, green/yellow, etc.). You can sell the spaces for at least $295 each and can fit at least 12 on the back-sack (see attached mock-up pic below). The ad itself will contain a quote, such as "Congratulations Class of 2014!" at the top, and the biz contact info following below.

The back-sacks should cost you no more than $1.50 each (depends where you get them - there are some for -$0.95) - contract a company that offer's free shipping.

So now, the math:

$295/ad x 12 spaces = $3540.00 Gross Profit.
$1.50/back-sack x 600 graduates = $900.00 + $50.00 Setup Cost = $950.00 Total Production Cost
Total, Net Profit: $2590.00

The back-sack itself should preferably be made of Polyester Material, and have an actual size is 15"h x 13-1/2"w. The imprint area of the back-sack is 8 inches in width by 9 inches in height, so in addition to just business ads, you'll have space on top for a nice quote and a "Seniors 2014 logo" (see attached mock up pic below).

Important Note:
To keep it legal from copyright infringement or anything of that nature, don't add the school name, logo, mascot, or anything that directly relates it to it. Just use the school colors and use general use of words and phrases like "Seniors 2014" or "Class of 2014".

Just something to keep in mind: Of course if you live in a large city with many high schools, you can way earn more income by giving to more graduates. And keep in mind that a lot of businesses and public officials will buy you ad space just because they like to support the youth and schools. Also, the student's are very emotional when it comes to graduation so they're likely to keep it.

I can provide more information upon request.

not sure what a "back sack" is but there was a very similar strategy to this posted about 2 years ago but involved football games instead of graduation, and seat cushions instead of "back sacks" (whatever they are)

Yea Shane, basically all offline marketing ventures that involve advertisements are the same (concept, biz model, etc), and like I mentioned, it's nothing new, I just thought I'd broaden the idea of how easy it is to make money from virtually anything to those that are new to this business.

Back-Sacks are also called Drawstring Bags or Drawstring Backpacks - do those ring a bell?

      Here's a pic of them:

Hey Mike, thanks for sharing your idea.

You could also take the idea a step further and offer business for an extra cost to be able to place a flyer, coupon, etc. inside the backpack this will help to generate more profit for you and help the business who are advertising to see results faster.

    I hope this helps,

    Martin

A few questions, as im in a small town that could benefit from this.

Are you outsourcing all back sacks via online?

Are you giving these to the schools for them to hand out on graduation? Im assuming trying to hand out these yourself could be a nightmare.

    Thank you!
