I'm New To Postcards and Newsletters-Your Thoughts?

Hey guys and gals. I have been doing online business for the last 18 months or so and I have decided I wanted to get into something a little more offline.

I read another Warrior's post about creating a PLR newsletter service. I thought that would be an interesting challenge and I went about researching a market. I finally settled on something outside of what he suggested (health care, insurance, etc) but this industry has decently high value clients, repeat customers and customers that love the service.

The only draw back is that this industry does not have an established newsletter service already, which has caused me to tread lightly. Also, the (industry) websites that had mailing list submission forms are not using the lists to mail out as far as I can see. I joined about 15 of them a couple months back and it seems none of them are sending anything.

Instead of going balls out and doing a initial mailing of 5,000 pieces, I have considered going with a smaller mailing of 1,000 pieces and targeting those businesses that have opt in forms already but are not using them. This is an artsy industry and it makes sense for me to go after those that already see the value in a newsletter even if they are not actively sending anything out.

A couple questions:
Should I be more concerned that there are no other newsletter providers in this industry?

Does my plan to go with a smaller mailing make sense with the given info? If not, why?

Anyone have a good strategy for finding websites that have those forms on them already? I have tried searching "Sign up for our newsletter" AND "Industry" as well as considered buying a email list, and going through each website and finding those that have the auto mailer form.

    Define artsy?

Galleries small and large send newsletters and info via joining mailing lists.

They have done this for decades, well before the Internet.

So who have you plumped upon?

PS: Just had a quick look at The Royal Opera House as I know they send tonnes of stuff via mail and e-mail to my mother and to be honest they do have a sign up form but it is a hassle to find the thing.

You have to click the tiny button at the top that says Register of all things.

Artsy is kind of a confusing term. This industry deals in creating art but not the type you were referring to. No paintings but art in it's own right. I would be willing to go into more details in a private message.

Any thoughts on the other questions?
