Best offline marketing strategy for dating site

I just completed the webdesign of my dating site, http://foodanddating.com and I'm getting ready to launch. A friend suggested that I try business cards but I would feel weird passing them out...should I do it anyway? I want this site to be a huge success for me what should I put on the cards?

You can use the local media so that people will recognize your online presence. You can write articles which relate to your website's theme in a local newspaper, magazines. Vehicle wraps are also a good option. Creative advertisements in newspapers or magazines will also work to mark your website's presence.

Not sure how much money you have to invest from the start...but have you thought about creating a radio advertisement for your site?

I'm assuming you need to stay within a specific area at first to build your site and it's not national. Because, if national your members will be extremely limited on who they can meet with. But, if you stay local your site will have the opportunity for many matches.

So... maybe a local radio advertisement would be good to start. Thoughts?

If you decide to go with radio ads here is some information I have in a report I purchased a while back. I've never done radio ads...so I don't know from my own experience how true this is...but might be something you want to test/try -

"The #1 mistake that business owners with a limited marketing budget make is spreading their commercial over too many radio stations. Less "plays" over more radio stations means that your message gets diluted. That is NOT the best use of your money OR the commercial. It is better to invest your marketing dollars on one radio station where your ad plays more frequently then to spread it over more stations. In this case, less is more!

A concentrated effort like this is the most cost effective way to advertise on the radio. You also need to make sure that your dialogue satisfies your prospects needs and wants."

Hope that helps! If you do end up going with a radio ad...please report back and let us know how it worked out.

Doing a launch is a specialized process. If you go into this haphazardly, you will spend a lot of money and not get the results you want.

Is this an affiliate front-end for other dating sites or are you launching a dating site from scratch? If you are creating a new dating site and looking to build your own service on a national level, you really need to plan this out.

It's my own dating site -- not affiliate so yeah it will take some planning I'll go ahead and go local at first as suggested by imsolution

You would probably know best, but I suggested/think it makes sense to start local.

If you get 500 people to join your website from all across the nation...it's going to be a lot harder for your members to find/meet other members in there area and "spark a connection".

But, if you get 500 members to join all from the same surrounding area it will give your members a better chance to "meet a connection". Then, when these connections happen and there are good results...your site can start spreading because of word-of-mouth. "How did you guys meet?" "We met on Foodanddating.com!"

Once you get a good turn-out from one city, move on to the next! Eventually, hopefully, you will be through-out the USA

Generating the initial base of members for a dating site is very difficult. Consider reaching out to established single events in your area with a free sponsorship on your site.
