Starting A Business In Legal Terms?

Obviously in starting a business legally you need to file taxes, register your business name, etc.

Are there any websites that help with automating most of this process: them doing it for me and I pay them?

Would LegalZoom be something like this?

Just looking at the SBA page (Follow These 10 Steps to Starting a Business | SBA.gov) a lot of this I am unfamiliar with.

Just wondering how one of you other Warriors went about this with your own businesses.

Thanks!

Colorado is easy. You can just go to the page for the Secretary of State and file. Takes about 10 minutes.

As I recently learned in another thread, some states are much more difficult.

I used LegalZoom for my first LLC years ago, then I found out how simple it was.

I live in Iowa and am completely new to this type of stuff. I'd assume LegalZoom can be applied in most situations for small businesses?

Or you could open a company offshore and not worry about taxes and making all the invoices etc...

fine for business outside your country of residence. A great way for your local taxman to nail your puwet to a wall if you get found out for evading local taxes.

It's really worth contacting your Secretary of State's office.
Your banker or Economic Development office should be
    helpful as well.
A local lawyer should give you a free consult.

I'm in the UK so perhaps different considerations though I'd imagine the general principles of setting up a business are the same regardless.

I'd strongly suggest seeing an accountant and/or other relevant professionals and seek advice on the options available to you and which would best suit your circumstances, business model etc.

Get the right advice and set yourself up properly from the off. Seek to avoid any nasty surprises later.

I went through my accountant here in NC. Here, at least, you need a corporate accountant to do your taxes; the franchise walk-in accountants aren't allowed to.

Can independent enrolled agents do the work, or any work, in NC?
I used to hire one that was as good as any CPA.
