How to Make MORE Money with Offline (Really)

Every now and then, and sometimes even more often than that, someone says something extremely profound on this forum. I was reading a thread here about selling video marketing, PPC, SEO, and just about everything else to offline clients a week or so ago. The OP was having a tough time deciding which service to offer, and Claude jumped in with something brilliant. I won't quote it here, but it was something to the tune of - sell the car, not the parts.

A website by itself won't bring in too many leads. Neither will Facebook, by itself. Or PPC. SEO isn't even possible without your own online real estate. And having a mobile website, by itself, won't help much either. But if you put all of that together... and you know what you're doing... you have a lead generation machine. And the machine will sell, but all those parts can be damn confusing to prospects.

I had two meetings these last two days, both with owners who wanted a new website. Typically, I have one product and one presentation. You want a website that will product leads? You got it, I'm the guy for you. Here are some details we need to go over...

But you and I both know a website by itself won't make their phone ring.

So I offered another option. And I told each prospect the reality of the situation - a new website will likely send them a handful of easy sales every 3 months. Sales they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. But it won't send them 10-20 phone calls a month, not without more work. And then I asked them, "Do you want more than that?"

Each prospect immediately said yes. They were looking for more than a basic website - even when that's what they told me they wanted over the phone. And now, we weren't talking about just a website. We were talking about an online marketing plan. And that one service turned into five. The price tag more than doubled, and they were amazed at how much they were getting. They both closed, by the way.

But my point here is this: a website or a mobile site or SEO is just a piece of the puzzle. And we need all the pieces in order to do the best job for our clients, correct? I made close to triple my typical sale by offering a step up from a basic website. And the best part? With everything I'm doing, there's no way my client won't make a profit. Hell, two or three sales is black. Profitable clients are very happy clients.

If you could put together the perfect online marketing plan for a local service-type business, what would it entail? How much would it cost you... and how much could you charge? How many of your clients would likely be profitable?

    I think you are right.

There was a thread not too long ago about selling leads instead of services. While it was not exactly as you mentioned it, I see lot of similarities.

Instead of offering only SEO, offer them a lead management service, where you will maybe do a bit of website design, video marketing, mobile marketing, PPC, SEO and charge a premium price for your services.

You may not do all of the above, but at least you will provide good quality leads and sales for your clients.

I couldn't agree more--sell the "result". I closed a deal this week for an ongoing $500 ($6000 this year) per month fee for video marketing and some help to set up an eBay store.

These folks are mechanics and do cluster repairs, ie speedometers, tachometers, etc. I am finding that businesses are becoming increasingly frustrated with pay per click, so showing ways to drive traffic and harvest leads in other ways is increasingly more compelling.

The thing that helped me close this latest deal was asking where the owner saw himself and his business in 5 years. He wants to sell it, and use the proceeds to fish more. So I listened to him talk about his dreams for almost 30 min. Selling the result, and selling dreams is a much easier way to "close". It almost happens by itself.

I agree. I believe Offline building Is the best approach for a long term business. The Internet always comes In handy of course, but there Is nothing better then belly-belly building. People will always want to see and look you in the eye and really get a great feel of who they will be doing business with.

The best way to make more money offline is to simply find out something that the business owners themselves do not yet know of how to increase their business and offer this solution to them.

Selling a package as a whole will defiantly raise the value but it needs to be the right service that are offered.

Biz owners want....MORE CUSTOMERS! They DON'T CARE HOW they get them, whether by website SEO, facebook, twitter or Video LeadGen.

Ryan McKinney has a great WSO (Offline Legion) where he teaches how to rank Videos for certain Keywords, get a phone number that YOU control (Call Fire) and pick a biz in that niche and direct calls to your "target" biz with a "whisper-effect" before the call is connected that says; "Here's another Lead from ______!" then the call is connected.

When you see 2 or 3 calls have come in, phone the biz and tell them that YOU caused those Leads to call and.....if they'd like to continue receiving "Lead" calls to pay your fee. If they refuse, just direct the calls to another biz.

Biz owners don't care HOW their phone is ringing or WHY! They just know that THEIR PHONE IS RINGING with potentialcustomers.
