All of my hard work is really starting to pay off.

Closed my first sizable deal with a new car dealer worth $7300 yesterday. And there's huge opportunities down the road with them because their marketing has a lot of holes in it. Plus they like me

The most amazing thing is that believe it or not, I've been cold calling almost exclusively even though we know cold calling doesn't work any more.

      Way to go!

I've heard few say cold calling doesn't work it, it just sucks to do so most people don't do it or do it for awhile and get burnt out so they don't continue...so for the bold who do it can be golden.

Someone sent me an article that blatantly says that cold calling doesn't work. The main reasons he gives is because 80% of executives don't take cold calls and something like 98% of them never buy on a cold call.

The thing that automatically struck me was not the 80% who don't but the 20% who do take calls. So if I make 10 calls I might get 2 conversations with executives but probably will get 1. And since it only takes about 1-2 mins for each call that you don't get through, that means if you invest, say, 15 minutes, you'll probably have a conversation with an executive. Sounds pretty good to me.

And the fact that they don't buy on a cold call is irrelevant (at least to me) because I'm just trying to get a meeting.

Time will tell which prospecting methods are the most effective. I'm getting ready for some direct mail campaigns. It will be interesting to compare results.

Just as well I didn't get infected by the cold calling mind virus.

The article may have been about big company executives?
The companies in the article may or may not be in your market.

Dealing with small business owners and GMs who are decision makers
obviously does not apply to whatever the article said. And, as you said,
there's the 20% who do answer the phone.

Small and medium size business owners can almost always be contacted directly by phone for the specific reason they want their own customers to be able to reach them anytime and anywhere. Most are not doding phone calls and few will have a 'gate keeper'. This gives the sales person an advantage on getting the phone picked up.

Congrats! It feels good when all of that analyzing, learning, and putting into practice starts to pay off. Seeing the opportunities down the road with that same client has to feel good as well.

The other thing that is really cool about this deal is that it turned out that there were 2 packages that made the most sense for them. And the services in those 2 were identical except one had 4 hours of consulting/month. They chose the one with the consulting.

    Great stuff.

I can remember some of your early posts just trying to come
    to grips with this business.

It's great to see you getting some results.

Anything that gets you in contact with a business owner or
decision maker is going to increase your chances of getting
    a paying client.

The whole "[fill in blank] is dead" is just total B.S.

It all works if you're making contact with business owners and
    doing enough of it.

Many people don't realize that offering internet marketing
services to businesses is probably the fastest growing industry
    on earth.

It's not hard to make money in an industry that's exploding if
you'll just get yourself in front of some potential clients.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

Andrew I totally agree, capitalizing on the disconnect between biz owners who just are not computer savvy, or dont know where to start is a huge market!

I'm really thinking offering services to setup facebook, twitter, website and mobile app's for the business (im thinking retail obviously)

one piece I'm missing is getting business to know about me, I suppose I could cold call, or even pound the pavement, I could do some mailers, but I see that's a pretty low return...

Did you make up some leaflets/info graphics and just stroll in with that "closing" mindset?

    Thanks for your replies btw!
