Anybody Still Use crack? Help Me Help Myself

So Im just going to give a little background info and follow up with a few questions. Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

Ill try to keep it short and to the point.

Basically about 2 years ago I moved to away to a new city under the impression that there was a good stable job waiting for me there.

Well unfortunately after signing an apartment lease, the employment opportunity fell through.

So there I was, looking stupid, wondering how in the hell I was going to pay the rent. I took a serving job at the local Cheddars restaurant but could only get like 20 hrs a week and the money was just awful.

Shit was troublesome to say the least.

So Naturally I began searching the google for ways to make money online. HAHA Thats my generation for ya.

Well somehow I stumbled upon this thing called "Offline on CRACK" that essentially gave you a system for cold calling local businesses and offering them web design services. I didn't really have anything to lose and figured I was going to be evicted anyway so I thought "what the hell" I'll give it a try.

Well let me tell you, I didn't get rich by any means, but from the day I picked up the phone I was able to pay my rent. I had never made a website in my life, or sold anything over my cell phone other than...

To be honest, I actually enjoyed the whole thing. I'd call these businesses up, schedule a meeting, walk in the establishment and close those fools. What makes it even better is that when I would get finished with the site, my clients would always tell me how great of a job I did.

So I did this until my lease was nearly up and then out of nowhere father called me and told me that he had found me a job (well paying to my standards) back in my hometown. Not wanting to seem ungrateful towards him, along with missing my old friends and family, I decided to take him up on his offer.

Well I've been working the 9-5 for the past year but just recently they decided to lay off 50 people. I was one of them.

My first thought was "Screw them, Ill start the web design company up again, do it even better than you did before, really take it serious this time, and try to scale it into something bigger"

What do you guys think about this? Is there still room for something like this out there or is the market completely saturated? Is there something better I could sell? Or maybe I could offer more than just web design. Maybe a full service small business marketing company, on and offline. Hell, maybe the whole business model should be changed.

ALSO, I thought Id search for the guy who made that program "John Durham"...

Well I found him and hes been BANNED. His forum is also trashed. Does anybody know the details of what happened to this dude?

Basically Im just looking for a little guidance on what steps you guys think I should take to get back in the game. Whats working nowadays?

Thanks in advance.

Web design is still needed. You won't know until you try it again, but if you were good with it before, I would think it would work again.

I remember a little about John's method. He went against forum rules and was banned here. He had sold his forum before that.

Thanks for the input Jeannie. Every web design company I see offers SEO, social media, and loads of other stuff. I dont really know how all of that works.

So my plan is just stick to building websites. Get my clientele base up a bit while learning about a different branch of service, then hit all current clients with an upsale.

      Does that sound reasonable?

Easy just pretend its 2 years ago, do the exact same thing and you will likely get the same results.

But thats the thing, I wanna do it a little better than last time. It was sort of a fly by night operation.

I don't really have any formal business education and I feel like it holds me back a bit. I see you guys talking about spreadsheets and virtual assistants haha I just picked the phone up and talked my ass off.

Should I write a business plan? Can I pay anyone to help me with that?

Thats a very interesting thought. I would be open to mulling it over with someone who has been in the business a while.

Is it within forum rules to make a thread about a possible JV opportunity?

You may want to consider going into the mobile website and mobile app arena. This is still very hot and will be around for a long time.

You can use software on and offline to create simple sites that compliment the main website.

The on-sells are unlimited with mobile.

        Cheers

What is the difference in mobile and responsive design? Do they not serve the same purpose?

The main difference I have noticed, is that responsively designed websites react to the users mobile device interface when located via their browser.

Mobile sites need a forwarding script to "activate" them when the main site has been launched (can take a little more time to load site). And the mobile sites actual scripting is separate from the main website.

            Hope this helps

I hope you don't mean this, but as you have written it then on some level you either do or did.

Moving on though, you could still do this as there will always be people who need simple websites done for them.

Not everyone needs the full Monty.

Some sort of residual up sell later on is a smart idea as you will just be running on a treadmill otherwise.

If you know nothing about Business and don't know anyone then an Accountant can run through the mechanics of everything with you.
