Local SEO - Yelp Monopoly

Local SEO, yelp took over the first page of Google! How do you stop this?
So they bumped everyone down.

Any ideas and help with this?
When I Google the business type & the city name, yelp comes on top of the list 4 times!

Any help?

Low competition maybe, allowing Yelp to take the first three spots? Directories, about.com articles and the like ranking well are usually an indication that their spot is ripe for the pickin'

EDIT: If your trying to rank a local business.

I have the SAME issue with a Spa client I have. She shows up in places, but she used to show up at the top of the first page, now it's saturated with 5 or 6 yelp listings.

I have this issue however it's my clients Yelp listing that is #1 and then their Google profile goes between A and B as well so in the end it's not an issue.

This is usually a good sign. When Google shows a directory such as Yelp, they are doing so because they cant find anything stronger to put there.

Bit of SEO and a few high profile links, should see a directory overtaken again

That's good input. I'll talk with my client about that. Give's me another reason to get her upgraded to an SEO package.

Have you ever though of getting your client listed on Yelp, and doing SEO for the yelp page? Do the same with a youtube video too. Angies list is taking over too, as well as other rating sites. Seems to be part of Google's master plan to take SEO out of the local search results. I expect to see more of this in the future, and suggest figuring out how to work with the rating sites, instead of against them, as it may become a loosing battle. By the way, you can charge your SEO clients for this service.

The problem with making Yelp profile is that they filter all the good reviews.

Real customers went in to do real reviews and they filtered all of them.

yelp will be class-action sued by thousands of businesses fairly soon. They are dirty scammers using extortion tactics.

    Hey Zach

My wife's business suffered the same thing, so now we look at NON google tactics. Have you thought about setting up a relationship with your client and another related/non competing business? A good JV can give you more business than you can handle, and is less of a headache than worrying about Google's stupid, f*****g algo (opps, not that I'm bitter or anything lol)

    Cheers

You guys, Yelp is a social site and as such their vision is to get people who "LIKE" to write reviews, writing reviews. When some one creates an account to just leave one review they filter it because there is no community participation on the site from that user.

Yes the review might be legit but there is NOTHING in Yelps terms of service that says any user has the right to not have their review filtered and the same goes for businesses who have profiles on the their site.

Can we PLEASE move on from this beaten subject!

Make a short 30 to 60 sec Video (Video Cheap Skate is a WSO)

Toss some backlinks at it. "Ping-O-Matic".com also.

Get the FULL Color Thumbnail to rank ABOVE all the other "text" entries for the chosen KeyWord.

This whole "social site" shit has got to die.

If you people want a solution to Yelp, STOP USING IT.

The more idiots who use it, the more control they get, the more they will extort businesses to "socialize" on their nazi run shit hole site.

Social sites are destroying the internet. Between Google raping YT with their stupid G+ shit and Yelp extorting people to be social so reviews stick... its getting ridiculous. I don't even like posting on Facebook. In all honesty, I just wish a group of hackers would take the entire internet down for a month. Take out Google, Facebook, Yelp, everything.

Then rebuild it from scratch. Thats the only solution I see.
