Just signed on 10 sales people. Need help devising a generic sales strategy

Hi guys.

My small, one-man, internet marketing company has been "open for business" for the past month & I've even landed a couple of clients in the chiropractic field. Over the weekend however, I worked out a deal with another company to utilize their 10-person sales team to sell my IM services. This other company is pretty well established (they have about 500 active clients but also have relationships with over 2000 chiropractors). They sell physical products & supplies exclusively to chiropractors, & they're looking for other revenue opportunities, so it should be a beneficial relationship for all involved.

So now, my problem is, I need to devise a sales strategy for these guys. Until now, my basic sales strategy for myself has been to google or yellow page local chiropractors, determine the best marketing service(s) to help them, & then either call or visit them in person, armed with the research I've done in advance. These sales guys however, will not be able to spend time researching in advance. The current supplies they sell are pretty generic & requires no prior knowledge of the chiropractor's business. So they just walk in & simply go through their generic sales pitch. I've been told by the owner, if I want to use his sales people, my pitch will need to be simplistic as well. Their business is a simple numbers game. The more doctors they see in a day, the more sales they close. No time for research.

So that's my problem. I need to create a simple sales pitch & possibly even alter/update my service offerings to something that sounds appealing in a quick sales pitch. For example, I would think a sales person going to a chiropractor they know nothing about and saying "We have SEO services that can get you more patients", would be very difficult, if not impossible.

In this scenario, would I be better off selling some other services that may be a little easier for the prospect to understand? Maybe something like lead generation? Until now, I've been selling basic IM services (SEO, websites, email marketing, social media, etc). These can all be a little confusing & require some explanation. I'm wondering if pitching something like lead generation that basically says "I'll hand you leads & you pay me for them", may be easier for the sales guys to pitch & the prospect to understand.

What are your thoughts? There's still a lot of things I need to flesh out here, so any advice you have, good or bad, I would GREATLY appreciate!

Thanks

My team only appointment sets, I do the actual phone appointment and closing because I personally enjoy it. I find that to be the best solution so your callers don't need to know a lot to be successful. All they have to do is setup the appointment and they can use a generic script for that.

Once the appointment is setup I research them before I call and I take care of the rest.

They bring them in and I take them down ( :

You could hire a closer for this as well and specifically train that one person to do what you do but I found it difficult to get a large amount of callers to be good at the entire process. Its easier to have them just setup appointments and besides I like to know every person that is a client for my company so I do the consultation and closing myself.

      Hi eperkins.

Thanks for the response. That's the process I'm going to go with. I've setup the following process:
      1) Sales person will find an interested prospect (not sure of their sales pitch yet)
      2) I setup a quick online webform which the sales person will then fill out that will be emailed to me about the prospect. It contains the prospect's name, title, address, phone #, website url (if any), possible services they may be interested in, and additional comments.
      3) I also purchased some team calendar software from GoDaddy ($12/yr). I'll list in the calendar all times I'm available. The sales person can then select one of these times from the calendar & book the appointment.

In regards to your team that sets the appointments, generally, what are they offering the prospect during their call/visit? That's the part I'm still unsure of. Are they simply asking if the prospect would be interested in hearing about ways to generate more customers, or have you found a certain sales pitch that seems to work better?

      Thanks again

I think they should do lead gen for you, not sales. For at least two reasons. One is as you said, they can only handle a generic script. If they appear to not know about your service when asked questions, they won't make sales. If they don't makes sales they won't make money. If they don't make money they're not gonna try and sell your stuff.

Second reason is they're there to sell their boss's stuff. That's their main thing. And you can't chase two rabbits and catch both.

But if they nonchalantly were to ask "how's business?" and however business is they add "oh I'm asking because the boss brought in this guy that's been getting leads for us, he's made our business boom and now he's looking for more work" then all of a sudden this becomes a hot recommendation rather than a sales pitch, and then you don't have to worry about it being in their hands and you can take over from there and close the sales. Give them a cut for passing along the recco and everybody wins.
