How to get customers to your store??

I have previously posted about getting a business location that was not around other businesses. I did go with the location and now need advice on bringing customers into the location. This business is a home decor, fragrance business.

Well first things first. As stupid & obvious as this may sound, it is a well known fact (for physical locations) that SIGNS are responsible for roughly 90% of their traffic.

People drive by, see your sign, and thats how most customers will find you.

So if you can, invest in a big, bright, bold, noticeable sign.

If you are not located by a busy road, then you will be forced to make alternative decisions.

What you will definitely want / need is a website, and to register in all the primary review sites like yellow pages, yahoo local, google local, merchant circle, kudzu, insider pages, etc etc.

Fill out your profiles, and start getting reviews asap (I would personally stay away from Yelp since it causes headaches for too many people).

You can also outsource SEO as there are some very talented people on here who can rank your site. If you link your site to your Google local, that will help your Google local pop up for more keywords and become more prominent.

You can also order citations from fiver (I have 4 separate gigs I use) and that will give your Google local another nice boost.

I also like doing geotargeted YT videos. I'm not sure how suitable this would be for the home decor niche (I do home improvement niches but not home decor). You can do terms like "home decor + your location" and these videos can rank quite easily in the top 3 of Google with a few backlinks.

The only downside is, it can become rather technical. And if you don't know what you're doing, you will have to learn all this stuff yourself, or find an honest person to do it for you (which is not always as easy at it sounds).

Then on top of that I'd get active on Facebook and build up a fan page.

As far as PPC and direct mail goes, I would not recommend that for a rookie.
Its one of the quickest ways to go broke if you don't know what you're doing.

Most of all, you really need to just sit down and develop and effective, economical
strategy. So you will need a mentor, or months of research to learn marketing,
or months of research to find a trusted marketer who will provide you a profitable,
    consistent ROI.

Marketing and getting clients really isn't difficult. But it certainly requires experience.
So you have to make some decisions, and take some action. I highly suggest you
don't become that type of business owner who refuses to learn anything about
marketing. Because knowing and understanding marketing is the best way to avoid
getting ripped off & going out of business cause you can't get customers and can't
    afford your bills.

Anytime you have questions, or need guidance, just post threads or make friends on
    here who you can trust.

    Good luck - Red

First of all, congrats on the new location.

One marketing method I would use, is to partner up with non-competing businesses. If there is a cellular shop, near your store, go In and see if you guys can promote each other. Simply hand out cards/brochures of other partner businesses when a sale is made. This type of thing works, just gotta go out and meet other businesses/business owners. You can partner up, with any businesses....I used the cellular store, just as an example....

Another method, that you can try is to use postcard marketing. Simply distribute, highly effective postcards in routes/neighborhoods near your store. Make sure, that the postcards have a eye-catching picture, headline and a great offer.

Do a local press release or newspaper ad, let people know that you are in business and spread the word locally through this method.

Put a huge balloon or sign over your store. The whole point is to grab people's attention. I use to drive by the freeway and always noticed a auto mechanic shop, simply because there was a 50 foot gorilla, floating above the store...lol

There are many ways to market, just gotta be creative
