WHY is it necessary to setup a company to sell my company products or services?

I would like to know why companies like to do business with companies and not individual.

For an example, I would need to set up a company to sell my service or product. Why can't companies normally deal with me individually? WHY they prefer to pay me the cheque to my company name instead of to my name?

Thanks.

Because then they know that you're an actual business not just some guy trying to rip them off?

You don't NEED a company; I did business as an individual for many years and nobody ever had a problem with it. But I come with experience and credentials they can check. If they want what you do badly enough, it won't be an issue.

Having a company *feels better* somehow, though. And in the US it's cheap to set up. A few hundred bucks for an S-Corp and you're on your way.

    • Jason is right. IMO

1 rule that still works (or I could be wrong) you sell yourself.

If people don't by my passion, confidence, desire, competence, etc.., to really help them, they aren't going to buy anything else from me.

I'M new, just me starting out, calling on you directly because I believe I can help, I'll be direct with you, I Want to help, here's what I'm good at!, and

      "your buck stops"
      with me....

or when a company says "the customer comes 1st" you can take that sales line to the bank???

but I could could be wrong.

Yep.. or you can just get a DBA... if you get an EIN (free and takes 5 minutes) a lot of banks will allow you to accept checks in the name of the business that is printed on the EIN, so you don't even need to do the whole DBA thing if you didn't want.

It's not smart... and if you take yourself seriously, you will want to incorporate. That's the real reason most businesses would rather do business with another business.

If you are just you, then you are all you have, if something goes wrong I have to sue you and I will get you and destroy you.

If you are a business, you have much more back up, if something goes wrong, first off its more likely because you've set up more professionally that youd have indemnity insurance (please ensure you have) and if it all went wrong Id sure the company and I wouldn't necessarily have to destroy you too
