Its a funny ol' game

Hi guys. I have recently setup an SMS marketing service. I am building an SMS subscription list, and basically selling the list to business owners to send out coupons to them. Its funny, as I thought the challenge would be to get companies to sign up, and Joe public would be easy to sign up to my service. But its the total opposite. Every business I have approached are desperate to sign up, and willing to pay, but joe public do not want to sign up using my shortcode, only a handfull of people have signed up.

I am hoping it is just because its the time of year, and ppl are more focussed on buying Xmas pressies etc. And maybe next month people will want to sign up as people will be more skint and want a bargain

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

    I have found a similar thing. While people have no problem liking our FB page its seems it's a bigger step for them to text the keyword in to join the list. We will now be placing pos material in the stores encouraging the customers to join and get access to a coupon

      Not an encouraging message for me seeing that I'm about start a short code campaign. Just got an approval on offering a free kids meal with an opt in or sign up.

        I would really like to know your success in this. Good luck. Maybe its a geographical thing? I just thought 'why would anyone not want to sign up' and assumed folk would be flooding in to sign up and get a bargain, but its not happened. I think its going to be a long game. But I just cannot justify charging businesses when I only have a handful of ppl in my list:confused:

    Are you making it clear that they won't be charged in addition to their regular texting rate? Make sure people know that they won't be charged and that they can opt out of the list anytime.

      I sure am, everything I advertise on, I make it very clear. I am starting to think people dont actually believe it

        Maybe it's a copy issue then? What does your signage say? I'm not sure if it's that they don't believe it that's the issue.

          Yeah, I should maybe hire someone to do the wording. The thing is, money is so tight, I am on a show string...
