Quick Youtube Question

I have a youtube video ranked up high for a client but they want to make some minor changes to the video. If I take down the video and upload another does it stay on the same URL that I have backlinks pointing to? Should the rank not really be affected?

Never had to do this before so wanted to make sure.

Unfortunately, you cannot reupload a modified video to the same URL/address. This only works with YouTube's video editor, which only has basic editing functionality, nowhere near popular video editing tools.

So yeah, you can't do that.

You could upload the new video and make it public, of course. Start optimizing it for p1. While you have it climbing the ranks, you possibly place a clickable link at the beginning of the old video prompting the viewer: "Click here for UPDATED INFORMATION", sending them straight to the new video. Once the new video makes it to the front page, delete the old video. Depending on your keyword competition, that could take a few hours to a few weeks...

I've had that request several times from clients. They simply don't know how it works.

I say "You can't modify a video. I can delete it and upload a new video, but all the links, views, Google positioning will go away. And of course, I'll be charging you for a new video. With that understanding, do you want me to replace your video, and optimize the new one?".
