Offline Markting using NewsPaper ads

Most business ventures rely on the Internet in administering their marketing efforts these days. This is fine, since no one can deny that the web is a powerful marketing tool, especially now that we're living in the Information Age. However, those who rely solely on the Internet are limiting their reach as far as acquiring customers is concerned. Contrary to what they think, offline marketing is still as effective as it was before , and if you want to run a successful offline marketing campaign, publishing newspaper ads is a good way to start.

Just a little Tip

Have you had some success using newspaper ads to pick up any offline clients?

Have any of you guys ever advertised in the newspaper?

Advertising in the newspaper, on the radio, or on cable TV...

You are advertising to everyone. Everyone who gets the newspaper, or is listening to the radio, at the time of the ad. Think of the readership.
hHow many own their own business? 1%?

So you are buying ads where only 1% is even a prospect.

Of that 1%, how many will answer your ad? One in 1,000?

I know, I know, you think it going to be 10% or some fantasy figure. Nope.

First, they have to get the newspaper. Then they have to read the newspaper. Then they have to be one of the 1% who own their own business. Then they have to find your ad. Then they have to be interested enough to pick up the phone.

      1 in 100,000. good luck.

I advertised a brick and mortar store in the newspaper for 30 years.
I wrote the book The Unfair Advantage Small Business Advertising Manual.

I know what I'm talking about.

So...direct mail may work, because you only mail to your target market. Or, you could just pick up the phone, like a salesperson, and get to it.

LED signs? So, you sell LED signs?

added later; Did I just kill another thread?

No you didn't kill another thread i still use this method and i get very good results and in a
        very cheap way.

It seems the way you did you advertizing wasn't affective enough or didn't know
        what you was doing.

I'd like to know more about Newspaper Ads-seems less people read them each day, even the community papers are hustling for business. The largest papers in the world are going online, presses are closing. Perhaps there are still pockets where newspapers are still an effective means of advertising. i would like to know more though, what are the results, the ROI?

A friend of mine's only form of advertising is a classified ad in the business and services section of the local newspaper. His cost $100 per month. So far in January he has landed over $25k in sales.

The point is to find out what works for you or your clients. If you are limiting your advertising options, then you are limiting your potential sales.

    Hi there,

I'll elaborate. We have a couple of clients who advertise in their local papers simply for bragging rights. They know their competitors read the newspapers and they like to rub their noses in it. Only recently have we been able to convince them to use it as a facet of an overall marketing initiative which invariably includes an online element.

These clients of ours are in America and everything we read says that newspapers are dead weight however we've found that if you can appeal to an older crowd (ie the ones that scan the obituaries) you still have a very viable medium.

    All the best,

    Sash....

It would depend on what is your objective of doing newspaper ads. Because sometimes you could create an ad just for the purpose of branding, and not much on sales.

If you have much money for marketing and want to do a BRANDING, then post an ad in newspaper is OK. Otherwise, you have to do more targeted marketing.

A tip well taken. I don't use newspaper ads but I will be going back to it.
I remember my last ad in the newspaper generate me a ton of leads and I made over $8000 in 3 weeks with the opportunity I was promoting. I say get your ad out in all media for the maximum results.

I think offline marketing still works but not much. I don't see a lot of people reading newspaper nowadays. I think internet marketing and billboard signs are more effective. LED signs are one we should check out too.

First of all, it all depends on particular newspaper, the section of the newspaper, the ad, and the offer. If you are offering, some financial service/product, then placing a well crafted ad...in the wall street journal could work. Pick the right newspaper, pick the best section that your niche will have deep interest in. Then write a DAMN good ad that entices, with a good offer.

Then again, it all depends on how much you spend on the ad and how much your profit is. Not all newspaper ads can work, but well chosen newspapers with good ads are worth a shot
