How much to charge to maintain website/social media?

I have a family friend who owns a furniture store and has a web page she paid someone to design but that guy is gone now and her site has a look but is basically blank so she asked me to help her out.

(I don't have a ton of web design experience but am not a complete noob either)

I would probably be changing her logo, adding content to the site, creating and managing her social media accounts.

I know a CMS would be good to just have her update her photos herself but she really has zero interest in doing any of the web stuff herself and just wants to send me new pictures / info to add to the site probably 3-4 times a month.

I told her I would set her up for free but she wanted me to maintain it and update it as well but the problem is neither of us has any idea what is a 'fair' price to do something like this.

I want to give her a good deal but I don't even know where to start.

For the business owners I work with, it seems to be common knowledge that websites cost $500 on up depending on complexity. so that will establish your base.

I suggest you get a good handle on how many hours the task will require and base your decision on that amount +20% extra time for unexpected issues.

The amount of time a person invests in development and maintenance of website is the key criterion to charge. Now its your choice how much do you charge per hour.

Posts asking how much to charge are annoying. YOU are the only person who can put a value on YOUR time. How many hours will it take and how much do you deserve based on the quantifiable value you will be bringing to the business from your actions?

You can fix the deal with $80 per month. I think that would be the best deal for you as well as as your friend.

Why not call a few local firms and see what the up keep of a site would cost. and charge 1/2. The average number I see for social media is in the $125 a month range ( EACH )

Keep in mind family or not.... you CAN do it, and they DONT want to do it. If not you then who? someone that she will be paying full price!
