What online marketing methods are you using now to help local businesses?

A few years ago I helped a friend with a carpet cleaning business get more business by getting him to the top of Google places and ranking some other websites and videos high in Google search. He got a lot of business from this but over time the rankings have all dropped way off.

The landscape has changed a lot since then, especially with all the changes with Google places/local/+. The results are much more unpredictable.

What online methods are you focusing on today to get more business for offline businesses through online marketing?

SEO?
Facebook ads?
Other?
