Don't know which method would work best

Hey guys,

I would appreciate any input that you guys may have. I am starting a social media marketing company and I want to be a leader in my field (of course). However, I have 5 years of web design experience (family, friends and my own sites). My initial thought was to solely focus my efforts on a pure social media marketing firm. I would like potential clients to only see me as a social media expert. But, the more research I do on my competition it (appears) that they offer web design services as well. Should I

a. follow suit and create a Web design + Social Media Firm
b. solely focus on a social media firm
c. solely focus on Web design and add social Media later
d. create two separate entities: Web design and Social Media

My top priority of course is to get the business off the ground first by getting my first clients. My reasoning leads me to believe that their is more demand for website services than for social, but I could be wrong. How would you guys approach this situation?

I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong forum.

Thank you in advance

Remember that the things you're referring to are products. Your business or firm is just a company that is able to sell these products. You don't need to create separate companies for each of your products, just as Walmart doesn't create a separate company for its grocery section, electronics department, clothing department, etc.

If your competitors are all offering Web design and you feel there is a demand for SMM, it makes more sense for you to focus on SMM and upsell Web design as a secondary. This way you can generate sales while facing less competition, as opposed to entering the flooded market of Web design sales.

However, if you already have leads and contacts in the Web design field and can generate more sales for Web design, then it may be best to pursue this option with a SMM upsell secondary.

These both lead to a point where you simultaneously sell SMM and Web design to different customers depending on their needs.

    • Whatever services you offer, make sure the clients can see the benefits of having them, what it will do for them, not just the products themselves. Social media isnt good because its popular to do, its good because it will increase their exposure and create relationships with new customers, which will bring them more money. That's the end goal, for them and for you.

I would highly suggest that you put all of your focus on the
#1 thing that matters most for people, Results! At the end
of the day you want to offer a result vs a product or service.

So many people get caught up in, SEO, Websites, SMS, PMS, SOS and everything else in between. The only thing people care about is, what's in
it for me, what is my result.

Would highly suggest you go right now and buy the book, Pitch Anything by
Oren Klaff. Read it 3 times, get a grasp on the process. Once you do this you're really going to get an AHA moment.

Focus on results everything else for a customer/client is secondary.
