WhatsApp vs Cold-Calling vs Emailing

Hello,

has any of you tried prospecting through WhatsApp (as opposed to Emailing or even Cold-Calling)? If so, what were your experiences/success rates in comparison...etc.?

Thanks.

How do you prospect on WhatsApp? I played with it on day but erased it.

I live in the land of unlimited sms but for most not unlimited data so WhatsApp made no sense to me.

WhatsaPP IS A NEW TYPE OF MESSAGING App. There has been talk that in the future some of these new messaging apps may take over email and sms. I myself don't see it yet.

People need email so they can sens documents and attachments. People love sms because its instant, even more instant than an instant messaging because it doesnt need an app and messages come right to your phone without the need to open an app. Even email has to be opened to read. SMS Marketing is strong and convenient!

I tried the app. I see a lot of the new generation like school students trying it. But 75% or more rely on SMS. The older people who are not technically smart and don't understand much can open a text fast without much effort!

These apps are worth to keep a eye on. But for now sms is the fastest delivery for ads and email is still good but many people delete emails they dont know who its from fast so using a permission based list and not spamming is the way to go!

Prospecting by email needs a good subject line like there website address if they have one or business name.

My expierience with WhatsApp is its still to new and needs to be discovered!

Thanks Aaron and Joe.. I understand where you're coming from, but perhaps you both live in the States, and since WhatsApp isn't that popular there yet, it makes sense.

In my country, it's quickly becoming the total opposite. People would "WhatsApp" you even before Calling or SMSing. And they'll ask you to "WhatsApp" them on such and such number, rather than "Calling them".

From my observations, I'd say over 90% rely on WhatsApp. If at least, as an initial form of contact.

WhatsApp indeed could be effective.. but you must have already collected a list of prospects phone numbers

Sounds like an opportunity to build some type of lead gen app or ancillary program to list build targeted WhatsApp users.

Are business owners even using WhatsApp?

I could maybe see it as a future SERVICE to offer business owners for reaching an audience, but how does it make sense for approaching them vs calls and emails?

You could develop a website attracting WhatsApp users grouped by intetests. There would be some compelling reason for them to submit their info, but I just view it the same as collecting email or othet info.

Mostly everywhere, except for the States (anyone correct me if I'm wrong).

Like I said before, it's huge here. I got into it a lil late, when I was accidentally informed by someone who was interested in my services that they've sent me a message through WhatsApp several days ago and got no reply, so they didn't even bother to call! Even though it shows them that the person they "WhatsApped" doesn't have it installed.

When I installed and started using the App, I found countless of other messages (some as old as several months ago) from people who were inquiring about my services, yet I didn't know about ... because, I didn't have this darn thing installed. (P.S. they only require my phone number to WhatsApp me, so it's easy).

It has reached the point that if you still don't have and use WhatsApp, they sometimes won't even take you seriously o_0.

but how does it make sense for approaching them vs calls and emails?
Open rates for WhatsApp messages are currently higher than for regular SMS messages. Plus, everyone seems to be obsessed by it including business owners. We don't have free SMS here, so the Free feature of WhatsApp is a bonus too.

Also, as far as I know, there still is no spam-rules included or that big a sort of limitations for sending messages through WhatsApp to people/prospects (still need to double check on that though).

I've seen one guy successfully use it. He's a designer clothes & accessoies owner - always sends out broadcast message to me whenever new stuffs arrive... many times I found myself in his store due to one of his message.

It does work.. followed up with a call!

Sorry guys, but WhatsApp is huge and has easily taken over SMS in a bunch oft countries (see Asia without China, they got their own clone). In Germany or is huge too, that is why Facebook bought it for $19B

However, you'd need their mobile number which is at least for me far more worth than my email. I wouldn't give this out for something free.

Like I said, there needs to be a compelling call to action. SMS opt-ins are nothing new and there are certainly lots of people willing to submit their cell numbers.
