using postcards to get past gatekeepers and reach high-value clients

If you are cold calling and lumpy mailing to high-value prospects, consider adding postcards to your marketing mix. In the High Response Direct Marketing podcast, Bob Ross explains one way to go after larger clients with postcards.

Thanks Joe, I appreciate you mentioning it. I've caught a lot of whales with it and there's no reason anyone else can't do the same.

I'm going to PM you the postcard template I use.

I want to say something nice to and get the template so here we go:

That postcast is great - keep up like that and you will become the Gary Halbert answer to the "postcard niche"

        An "offshoot" of Bob's postcard program is to;

        1) Set up a "Town Biz Directory" with Links to existing websites
        2) Send postcards to the biz you've linked to, telling them you have set up a "Biz Directory" for the Town and you will be sending "Welcome PostCards" to New Residents and if they'd like to "Keep their Link" it will cost X$ per month
        3) Get a List of New Residents each month and send them your "Welcome PostCard" that ALSO includes a QR Code that can be scanned by SmartPhone owners (which will be most)

A nice Monthly Income Stream without having to do much mailing.

PS....a way to charge is to ask for a 1st and Last payment in advance. (I also ask for an Initial Set-Up Fee) No Contract. They can quit at any time. When they do, we apply the Last Mo Pmt.

PPS....what keeps participants paying is the continuous exposure to New Prospects for their biz.

Hey Steve, thanks for the kind words and I'm positive it would work in the UK, I can't think of why it would be that much more difficult to find addresses. I'm sending you the template along with a report/guide that I created for it and you'll see some info you'll like.

I never even considered podcasting until it just dawned on me about a month ago, thanks for enjoying it, I've got no plans to stop.

Doing the legwork can sometimes be tedious but everything is easily outsourceable. I've got an $8/hour girl that does it no problem with minimal training.

Such a good idea. I'm very interested in getting an idea what the guide/template would look like.

              Nice job with podcast, Bob.

You are a natural and it sounds like you are broadcasting from a pro studio.

What kind of mic to you use?

Like the idea with the postcard also.

Thanks Ron. I did a lot of research beforehand so I could have the best quality possible (and not spend a fortune).

It's funny because the best podcasting microphone is supposedly the heil pr40 but I found an alternative that's just incredible and one fifth of the cost. It's the audio technica ATR2100. audio technica ATR2100. (non aff link)

This mic comes with an xlr cable and even a little stand (although I use a boom arm that clamps to a table that I bought on amazon as well). Plus it's got a USB port if you want to plug it in right to your computer.

The biggest thing learned about mics for podcasting is that you really need to use 'dynamic' microphones and not 'condenser' mics. Condenser mics pick up every little sound, where dynamic mics just take the sound coming from it's direct front, so it's MUCH quieter.

I run the mic through a behringer mixer that has a built in compressor (I highly suggest using a compressor) and I output it to a zoom h1 digital recorder.

I could probably spend 3x the cost for each of these items if I bought the 'recommended' equipment but I did enough research to find that these work just as well if not better... and it shows!

For my intro, I found this awesome guy on fiverr who I highly recommend. All you need to do is give him your script and he'll make it amazing.
