Online coupons vs Print coupons

I recently came across a local website that features coupons for local businesses. The site offers a mobile app so the user can "save on the go". Has anyone had any experience with this? How effective is it? Is it more or less effective than print coupons?

It depends what your target readership use.

A younger demographic would find the mobile app extremely useful.

Whereas an older demographic would not find the app so useful.

I'm talking about the same type of coupons you would see on a typical local magazine or mailer for businesses such as pizza parlors, burger joints, mechanic and tire shops, etc.

"A younger demographic would find the mobile app extremely useful. Whereas an older demographic would not find the app so useful."

This brings up another interesting point. What demographic tends to use coupons more, in regards to age, household income, etc.?

This is great because think of how many times you left a clipped coupon at home. By saving the mobile coupon online or on your mobile device, it makes it easy to keep with you at all times.

Results will vary based on location, business/industry, target market, etc...

Only way to know for sure is to test it. However, as long as the website is mobile optimized you can offer both print and mobile simultaneously easily and just let the consumer decide which one is best for them without limiting their options.

Also I've personally come across some coupons in a coupon app that said the coupon on my phone was not valid in any store. I was irked at that company thinking "Well WHY then do you have a coupon in a coupon app?!" Some stores are set up to handle and will honor coupons from your phone, others you have to bring in a printed out coupon from either online or a print advertisement.
