Getting Back into Local Marketing

Hi. I am hoping some of the forum can help me.

I had an profitable website design business that slowly went down back when the economy had problems around 2008-2009. I lost several customers and now only have about three.

I am looking to get my business built back up.

Could anyone please recommend a program/person that teaches local marketing in the following:
client acquisition, local seo, google plus, local social media, client retention, client upsells, and pricing of products.

I really do want to do it all myself. So No Outsourcing. I already know how to design sites, I need brushing up on seo especially for local sites, and how to correctly price products. I always seemed to under price myself in the past.

Please note that I do not want the "build a local directory" or "rent out a site" to get customers. I would like to learn other methods.

I apologize if this post is long but I really need to build this business back up and need to learn from a reputable person about local marketing.

Thank you
Dany

    Hi Dany,

You've certainly asked a loaded question. The list of "things to do" is reasonably long. Not going to go through it all here so here is a list to get you started.

Make sure all your Google services are in the same account. You will want to setup Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools (this will be important to learn how Google perceives your website), Google+ Local, Google+ Personal, Google+ Business Page.

Once Google is setup use a syndication services like UBL or Localeze to get your information out to more websites. Don't use Yext...their service is considered advertising because once you stop the service your listings on the sites they submitted change.

Claim/Update your listing on Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yelp, YP, Superpages, Insider Pages, Manta, Yalwa, Factual, Four Square. You can certainly add to this list if you wish.

Let's not forget LinkedIn Personal and Company pages along with other social communities like Facebook Page, Google+ Page, Twitter.

Connect your website to your social communities so any blog posts from your website feeds the social accounts.

Find out if you have any structured data issues on your website. Use Google's tool at:
    Google Structured Data Testing Tool

I think I'll stop here as there is a reasonable amount of labor time in the above. Perhaps others will chime in on additional ideas.

    Hope this helps.

One of the first things you could do is contact your current clients for referrals, be sure to ask them for 3-5 referrals. Next, contact your previous clients and ask them for referrals. If they haven't had any work done since 2009, it time for a re-design. A business should re-design they're website every 2-3 years, to look current and keep up with the latest updates in onsite local SEO.

As for all of your other questions about training, just use the 'Search' feature here on the WF. The are volumes free of information about prospecting, marketing, and all of the services you have questions about.

Learn on-site SEO, it is invaluable to your your business. This is what will help set you apart from "web designers", when you can turn a website into a customer/revenue generating tool for your client.

Don't underprice your services, there is no difference between asking for $250 or $2500. You have to ask either way, may as well ask for what you're worth.

To get new clients, here are some of the less expensive ways:
    Email
    Direct Mail
    Online Classified ads
    Cold Call - phone
Cold Call - Face to face

Take time to do the research on line to find those who need website re-design. The set-up as system to contact them, repeatedly if necessary(sales funnel).

This forum is a treasure trove of information, use it.

    Wishing you much success.

Thank you all for taking the time to post. Great useful information. Yes the forum is full of great information. Was looking for a course that provided it all in one place. I believe I have found it and will take what I learn there and supplement from the WF.

Thank you again... very excited to get back in the game.
