The Doberman Dan Letter

So, I like reading Doberman Dan's blogs, and I've toyed with the idea of subscribing to his "paper and ink" newsletter.

It's $50 a month for his newsletter. I noticed on his blog that he is doubling the price after July 6 (not sure if this is just a marketing gimmick to get more subscribers). But, it definitely has me thinking about it!

So, my questions for you is... Do you currently, or have you ever, subscribed to The Doberman Dan Letter? If so, what do you think about it? Is it worth $50 a month? What are some of the articles Dan talks about? Mostly copywriting, or everything to do with marketing offline?

Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

Yes, I subscribe to the Doberman Dan newsletter. I don't think doubling the price is a marketing gimmick since he has talked about that several times in the past.

His newsletter is a mix of rant, his experience, and how to do better with Direct Marketing much along the lines of a long monolog. Personally, I like the rants the best since he puts the way I feel about a lot of things in much clearer language . But the information he provides is something I don't hear very often. I even (gasp) learn things I didn't know about before.

But it also includes access to the membership page (at least it did when I joined about a year ago), and that has a lot of useful information and recordings of past monthly webinars, Q&A sessions, bonuses, supplemental material for some of the newsletters, etc.

Is it worth the $50.00/month? For me, absolutely, as I think having access to anyone at the top of their game is worth that (and a lot more.)

Well, okay, if you aren't going to do anything with the information and just looking for more material for your bookshelf, it *might* not be worth it.

    Why "might"?

I find it relatively uncommon not to be able to apply something I learn in one area to another area. But that depends on the person.

For me, he opens my eyes to a lot of possibilities I would not have seen without the newsletters.

    Hope that helps.

Doberman is a personal friend of mine.. his knowledge of direct response is top tier.. he built from scratch a private label supplement company which he later sold all using direct response..

for a small time Doberman lived in Costa Rica.. and also for a period of time Gary Halbert came and stayed at his apartment.. together they were working on a dozen different campaigns.. and papers and ads and copy were all over the place..

when Doberman moved to florida I house sat for a bit during his travel.. when he asked me to ship his stuff to florida.. while packing a accidently dropped a cardboard box that opned and what fell out was piles of ads and successfl sales letters with notes and post it notes.. I was like in Direct response HOG heaven..

I took it all and made a complete copy of EVEYTHING.. over 1000 pages.. cost me a few hundred just to copy this.. but it was MINE... ALL MINE..

so you asked if $50 per month was worth his newsletter

    HELL YES!!!!!

      I'm a subscriber.

In addition to the printed newsletter, you get a monthly webinar.

There is also a membership site with tons of other resources, including recordings of the monthly webinars.

Is it worth $50 a month?

      Hell yes it is.

Is it worth $95 a month?

      Hell yes it is.

If you can't get one idea an issue -- or hell, even one idea a year -- to recoup your investment, you're a shit weasel.

And by the way, raising your price is not a marketing gimmick. It's a smart strategy, one that would behoove you to emulate.

    Thanks Marvin, bluecoyotemedia, and RRG!!!

Whelp, I took your advise and just signed up (about 5 minutes ago). So far so good!

Marvin, the membership page is still there with videos, examples, etc! I can't wait to get my first issue (is it all Dan writing, or does he have guests articles, too?)!!!!!!!!

Jake, I hope the other Warriors helped you! Note: I was on the fence about signing up, Marvin, bluecoyotemedia, and RRG just pushed me over.

It's all Dan. It's totally different than the No BS Marketing Letter, if you're familiar with that.

I've been a member of GKIC for over a year and get the No B.S. Marketing Letter. I loooove it! Especially when Dan Kennedy writes half the letter. Love his thoughts.

I'm definitely looking forward to The Doberman Dan Letter! Thanks!

        And, thanks Jonwebb!

      Glad you liked it.

Yeah, DD has a unique personality. It's a fun read.

When you get a chance, listen to the Premier Seminar MP3s. Recorded from a live event Dan did with Terry Dean and a couple other heavy hitters.

They did Mastermind hot seats. Some real nuggets of gold in them thar hills.

Another good thing Dan offers is what he calls his "cattle call"
That's where he invites you to submit your own salesletter for him to
submit to several of the largest marketers.

First, he reviews it. If it passes his criteria, he then passes it on to his marketing friends.
Marketers like Agora, Bottom line etc.

Could be your chance to break into the big time!

A lot of these guys with so-called 'original' ideas mostly get them from older marketers, the Gary Halbert letters are free online and have inspired a lot of imitators - your Frank Kerns and the like troll through public domain sites dredging up direct response copy from the 1920's/30's/40's/50's and re-hash it into modern language and idiom. There is not a lot that is new.
