Is ranking YouTube videos getting more difficult?

Is it my imagination or is the ranking of youtube videos getting more difficult?

I don't see anywhere near the number of videos listed on page one for a variety of local search terms as I did just a few months ago. anyone else see their videos drop on Google?

Its not your imagination I have observed the same thing. I read a thread somewhere else discussing it (wish I could remember where) and some mention of doing vids via hangouts having the ability to rank better at the moment.

Google really, really, really doesn't want more than 2 search results, per page, from one source. And Youtube is one of those sources.

It really helps if you have some serious links to your Youtube videos; One from Facebook, a website, a blog, a few articles, a forum or two, and some other social signals.

And everything on the Yotube video page helps; comments, views, subs, favorites, likes, and the description content and titles all matter.

one thing I do with a new video, is use thhe Channel to comment on high Pagerank videos. 4 or 5 a day per video...for a month or two. This internal links are Dofollow, and convey Pagerank. It will really help.

Oh, and buying views doesn't help anymore. They almost never show up, and Youtube limits these views to 301 anyway. Natural views (by linking to Facebook, etc) are much better.

I have read on a number of forums the outrage of the current status of YouTube ranking. For me... It was no surprise. a quick and silent "update" to Google. Google seeks balance in listings, and YouTube was becoming dominant.

Again for me personally I have noticed that having matching text based content as well as the video content tends to render BOTH listings in good position. I have always been able to get Text to out rank video, but that appears to have changed a bit, and some of my newer material is ranking the YouTube video higher than the text. But, if they BOTH are in the top 5 I am not one to complain much! ha ha

I will say that I do NOT focus much on the back linking and such to my videos. However it is back linked within the articles that tend to display together.

Does this means the end of video marketing?

If we create video but could not rank it the way we want it to be?

Video marketing doesn't have an end, it only has a future. Google gives people what they want (or at least this is what they say). Most people are lazy and they prefer watching a video than reading a long text (in case both cover the same thing). And if people prefer videos, Google will give them videos, no matter some marketers are using them to sell their products, or not.

Thanks. I like how you write this. Yes, when I think over it again... the video marketing still has bright future. I think it is just how we manage and our strategies on making it a good marketing tool. It's true that more people prefer watching videos than reading.

So, this forum is the largest internet marketing forums in the world which is full of products being sold on how to game Google and their respective products, namely YouTube.

Since there's been well over 100 products, (maybe more) released on this forum about how to game YouTube it was only a matter of time before G decided to change the algo up.

Only the naive think they aren't watching what's being sold here when it comes to their business and I'm willing to bet they've even bought peoples Google gaming products as well.

With that said, I think there's some answers here that fall more into speculation then fact.

Claude I got love for you but unless you have an official statement from Google about them not wanting more then 2 results per search results page from the same source your statement is pure speculation. I have crap ton's of proof that proves your statement otherwise by the way.

Savidge, I don't know you but your statement isn't really true either. Google seeks relevance to the search term not necessarily balance. To me balance implies, in the context of your statement is that Google may rank sites that aren't worthy just to make results balanced? That's what I'm getting from your reply.

      .
I'm basing my statement on two things; personal experience with clients (and my own videos), and something I read in a report on Video marketing. To be honest, I forget the source. But I know that, when I first produce a series of videos, I may get 5 Youtube videos to show up on the first page of a Google search. And, for whatever reason, a couple of weeks later, there are just one or two videos.

I don't know if I would call my post "pure speculation", but I respect that you doubt what is said, and seek proof.

I know that a year ago, I could dominate a page one search result with videos and a website...but not now. I can still get a couple of listings, maybe a video or two...but it is getting harder.

Client selection is getting more important. Clients in huge populations, with thousands of competitors...is getting hard to make work. Managing client expectations is the key. And I have no clients that aren't on page one on Google at least twice. So there is still lots of gold in them thar hills.

      Rus,

I think you nailed exactly what I was saying in a round about way. There are without question patterns in what is displayed in search results. Google plays with "Balance" all the time. I am guessing if by percentage "YouTube" videos are reaching number 1 positions in to many places, they will put that in check.

I have said this one other time on this forum ( another board ) and got blasted... Wikipedia by all that I know and follow with SEO should not be listed and Panda should have taken them out at the knees... but they STILL rank very well. Is it due to "relevance" uh maybe. is it due to "Authority"? uh maybe. But you can look at any and EVERY page they have and do a keyword density count.. they are so keyword stuffed its not funny. The rules are bent, there is no question.

So you think "Relevance" is the have all that Google is looking for. Lets look at this for a moment. A video.. a title, and a description.. and of course the content in the video ( its up for debate if Google actually pulls that information ) You place that video up against a page of text and images. If the person that put that page of text and images has half a clue of what they are doing, there should be NO QUESTION that based apon "Relevance" a Page should beat a video EVERY TIME.

So lets take this split a bit further. Ever noticed that in some SERPS there is a "video" section and there are no videos in the top 10 results ( aside from the "video" listings ) Other SERPS don't have this, and Video is listed in the SERP listings. I say color me balanced!

It is very true that ranking videos has become harder in the sense that there re so many people trying to rank videos on Google.

    Is it impossible?

If you take the time to market them, and they are in an unknown niche or not so difficult keyword in the offline industry, it isn't so tough. With the right backlinks and marketing, it is very easy.

The right marketing is very important in order to rank vids the right way. With just a few tactics, it is still possible to rank on Google vied youtube.

      Very true!

I have a client that I just used some Facebook ads, VERY CHEAP.
Drove traffic and views and the video started to rank and is currently on the first page of Google for their city+niche.

Is it harder? Yes if you're continually using some of the methods taught/sold on this forum.

Videos are a very powerful citation source in local SEO... if you get the video ranking nowadays then consider yourself very fortunate. What I've noticed is that the weight the algo was giving not just youtube, but vimeo and dailymotion, is now gone. Originally, videos weren't easy to rank...then an algo update that was focused on user experience and not actual ranking, included some videos. The ranking algorithm for those videos to show up were completely separate from Google itself. Before the first UX algo update to include videos regularly, videos would still show up but it was within the organic algorithm instead of a separate algorithm. We're kind of back to how things used to be before videos ranking was a common thing.

I haven't pitched much video ranking services to my clients, but I do have 2 YouTube videos which were created back in 2010, and they're all on Page 1 still, with just very light backlinking over the years, I NEVER paid for views or any bot comments, etc.

Got real views from social media, PRs, and few other real sources.

The biggest problem with people ranking videos is that everyone taught that all you had to do was send spammy backlinks at them and you can still rank them. I am still ranking my videos fine but I build quality links to the videos, I don't just do a link blast to low quality sites.

I have maybe 300 videos ranked on the front page of Google i noticed a slight drop on a few of them, but it all depends on your link building.
