If They Ask, FOLLOW UP! Obvious, but Easy to Forget

A little over a month ago, a potential client reached out to me interested in our video services.

We exchanged a couple emails, and then he told me his business partner was out of the country, so he would like to revisit this again in 2 weeks once his partner was back.

Usually in situations like this, I would put a reminder in my phone calendar so that I would remember to follow up.

In this case I forgot, so I did not remember to send a follow up email until 3 weeks later.

Fortunately, this business owner remembered our conversation, and within a week I received a check from him for $749 to create a video for his business.

Not only that, but this particular client has over 100 resellers of his service, some of whom he told me will want their own customized version of the video, so that means even more clients with NO additional marketing or effort on my part!

So Here's my Point:

Do whatever it takes to be organized in your follow up system.

And if a potential client asks you to contact them again in the future....DO IT!

Sometimes it can even be easy for us to discount requests like this as a business owner's way of politely telling us to take a hike.

BUT even if you think that might be the case....it's always in our best interest to follow up per their request, because sometimes all it takes is something as simple as a follow up email or phone call to land a new client.

  • Great advice, not just for new clients but old clients as well. Just reminding them the great job you did for them can get you more work and/or referrals.

Following up has been a huge money maker for us in real estate!!

When a prospect requests their free copy of our home seller's guide we put their contact info on a 5" x 8" index card and put the date we contacted them and what happened. Put them in a little box with the dates of when we should contact them next and on that day we follow up.

Lots of people who request the home seller's guide aren't ready to list their house for months. So, if we didn't follow up most likely they'd be handing their money over to some other real estate agent. <---Not good.

Follow ups are HUGE in the digital media industry. When you have big named clients following up your inquiry, all you need to worry about is providing A+ service for your client.
