Cold Calling in Europe

I need some money and I will start tomorrow morning cold calling every single business I find on the yellow pages.. I'm good at Web Design and I can also offers SEO, SEM, Social Media etc.. but mostly I hope to make some money with Web Design.

    Cold calling is a tough road to travel. Prepare yourself for a lot of rejection or possibly outright rudeness. Better to make some new connections or work your existing ones.

    Hey Dave,

    I agree. Cold calling will only get you so far.

    Personally, I have had success in the past by walking into businesses, and talking with the owners face to face. It is much easier to close a deal and actually relate with the owner in person than over the phone. It shows confidence on your part, and the owner of the business will actually know who you are rather than just buying services from some random person they met over the phone.

    Get a target market. WHO will you call? Narrow it down to a market. One market at a time. You will start realizing you're having the same few conversations over and over again. And the problems one owner in this industry is having are the same as what the others are experiencing. Once you begin learning these problems, you can use them as conversation starters and qualifiers.

    You don't just call people up and say, "Want a website?" If you do that, you will sound like every other lame designer out there who hasn't got a clue what they are doing. And you will be paid like one.

    Who will you call?

    What problem(s) will you solve for them?

    How will you start a conversation so that there is a rest of the call?

    Do you have the right expectations for what is going to happen when you make the dials? How many people will answer vs how many won't? Are you ready for a lot of voicemail? Are you ready to be told, "We're not interested?" and realize it has nothing to do with you?

    It won't be a long experience if you don't focus.

    I read a lot about cold calling.

    I'm going to use John Durham's script: something like 'Goodmorning, I'm a new webdesigner in town and I called to ask if you need any help with your online presence or I can help you create one'.

    I am prepared to rejection, doesn't really matter to me if they say no, I don't know them.
    I just need one client in...300 calls? It's a lot, and I'm ok with that.

    I'm going to star tomorrow morning, I have been busy preparing for my scripts and questions and answers and some other things related to my online stuff..

    Anyway, I wanted to start this afternoon but I didn't had the guts..I need this money..anyway, planning to make 300 calls tomorrow.
