There is a similar us version I believe.
It's basically to stop spamming. If you have potential clients you can email if you have a list of opted in ppl, you can email. Pretty much trying to stop massive spammers using scraped emails. It's not putting an end to email communication at all. Not by a long shot.

I don't quite understand the disconnect here. How the addresses are acquired is determining if it's SPAM? I would think content of the email is determining if it is SPAM or not.

What if I am simply asking who I should speak with about something?

Yea, what they were trying to do is prevent people from scraping thousands of emails and then spamming solicitations (unwanted and no where to opt out). So they made some guidelines. (which I think is a joke by the way)

So yes, if you cold email someone for business purposes they aren't going to care or come down on you at all.

yea because usually when im looking for potential clients weather it be from the website or yellowpages and get there email contact from there. I usually just cold email them promoting what I can do for them, is that still a problem when it comes to this?

It could be and you should get valid legal advice.

In any event, with the method you describe above you will likely get a terrible response rate (if any at all). Why would you attempt to promote anything at all? It's such a wasted opportunity to engage them and initiate or attempt to start a conversation --- but you will completely obliterate that opportunity by inserting your "promotion" effort.

Video is great! Just suggesting that when I moved that just a little later on in the sales process rather than in the initial contact/email I found much better response than if I were to introduce the material sooner.

This link pretty much dumbs it down. And pretty much still opens the door to any biz communication other than spam and scraped email usage.

I was gearing up for big email campaign, but no longer use it as a method of initial contact. With this new law they will be looking for someone to "burn at the stake". Just need to focus on other methods of contact.

Seems similar to how the TCPA came into play in the US.
If anything I think this is a good thing that messaging is become more monitored and being geared away from spammers.

I'm hoping there's a net positive impact here with these new regulations.

Yea I guess I'll stick to more of a direct mail approach... email was just much more cheaper/free. Plus I love being in the "Driver seat" when i have potential clients calling me instead of cold calling them.

I wouldn't abandon it. Maybe you are simply misunderstanding... not sure. My point is this:

WHY do you have to sell on the first email? Why not simply engage them instead?

I think you will find a much better response.

Oh I see what your getting at. I think there is a misunderstanding. my first email is never a "hard" sell. Since I have a website of my own with a contact form.. I too usually get spammed emails from other countries about seo in a hard selling way. Kinda ironic but yea I just delete those... but i usually try my best to not come accross that way.

I've had some success with a referral initial contact email. Just a short and simple inquiry to find out who exactly would be best to talk with about whatever it is related to the offer/product/service.
