Does anyone here run a successful lead generation business?

kinda like what HomeAdvisor is doing, charge you $X per lead.

How much can you make? 6 figures? 7 figures?

How is it different from providing services such as website, seo, ppc?

Do you use phone tracking and charge them per call?

How do you get clients? How much money do you need to get started?

Ive seen people make 7 figures without trying hard on one campaign. Find someone who needs the leads. Sell those leads to them. Make sure the quality of leads is always good. Not too tough.

Yes, a large portion of my business is lead generation. I currently have a few business models in place, pay per call, leasing, commission based, 2-tier per call/per sale as well as I provide value add services to help businesses increase their conversions on the leads that I send them. So things like help with creating them sales/call scripts, tracking analytics for them, working on sales funnels, etc.

The amount you can make is entirely up to you since it can be scaled in many different ways. For me, it comes out to about mid to high 5 figures a month at the moment for that portion of my business.

In many ways it is very similar to providing those services, you are just doing it on your own properties...but at the same time it is vastly different since the ONLY result that is useful is getting leads to customers. So it does not matter about being #1 in Google, having the best on page seo or getting 1000 hits a day. If you are not generating leads all that stuff is useless. So you have to think a bit differently in terms of scaling. If you are doing pay per call, then the ONLY thing you are looking to do is find methods to generate more calls. So SEO lead gen sites, video marketing, PPC, social, classifieds, even offline marketing like handing out flyers or putting up ads at grocery stores, etc. Where can you get leads and how can you squeeze more leads out of that source.

So there is ALOT of testing, a/b splitting, failing, etc etc to squeeze every little bit out of a lead source. That is if you want to get the most out of this business model.

Yes you need phone tracking system if that is what you are going to do...do not need phone tracking if you just do leasing.

In terms of getting clients, there are two main methods. Build some successful lead gen campaigns that are generating leads in a niche, then contact businesses in that niche to sell them the leads as a service. OR you can just start calling up businesses and sell them the service first, then build out the lead gen campaigns to send them the leads. No I am not going to tell you where, who or how to get in touch with these businesses, that is simple sales/marketing for your own business.

If you want to start on the cheap, start with video marketing and lead gen. Create videos in a few niche that have some search volume, rank them in Google. You can add the tracking number to the video first or afterwards but twilio sells numbers at $1 a month.

If you want to actually start a business, then you want between $1000-$10,000 to start depending on how serious you are about this and how large a business you want to build.

The one thing that many people do not realize is that Lead Gen is no different than any other type of Internet Marketing. It is not easy, it takes time and effort to succeed....

Can you talk a little more about what you do?

      How to create sales funnels?
How much do you charge them?

So you teach them stuff like seo and ppc and let them generate their own traffic?

The beauty of the Lead Generation industry is that there truly are tons of possibilities. There are dozens of lead verticals that are already well and thriving or you can carve out your own niche and generate demand for your specific service. HomeAdvisor is a great example, but what they do is by no means the standard that you NEED to build your business around.

Do you want to sell calls? How about web leads? How about both? You can charge on a per-lead basis or sell subscriptions for your service. Many lead gen companies even buy leads from people who can't find someone to service the lead's needs and sell those themselves. You can jump into as many verticals as you want or try to specialize in just one. The choices are yours. It just depends which direction you want to go.

What niches should you target for lead generation?

It's not so much as what you SHOULD do, it's more about what you think you can do successfully. We have clients that live in the huge verticals like insurance, auto finance, mortgage, home improvement, etc. We also have clients that sell leads for dog care/sitting/walking. In the bigger verticals, you will probably be able to find buyers a bit easier (since there are so many), but niche verticals allow you to grab a bigger share of the market.

So think about what you're a specialist in, or what you can market most effectively.

Niches are only the first step....

If you are just doing basic lead generation you can get away with "Profession +Location" based lead generation. If you are looking to get more advanced all at or build a lead generation business, then you have to start looking at the actual services, products, the customers and the businesses you have a clients.

Wasting time on Plumber in Chicago (170 searches a month) when you could easily target "water heater replacement chicago" (90 searches a month). The second is much more targeted, a much higher price point than a general plumber house call, a high ROI for the plumber and a set service so you can set a specific price for this type of lead. A plumbing company would LOVE to have even a handful more leads for water heater replacement, repair, installation, which are usually going to be quality leads compared to general plumbing calls for quotes, information, etc about their toilet, taps, pipes, etc.

In terms of what are the BEST niches, that is a loaded questions. Best in terms of easiest to get leads, ranking pages in Google, lowest competition, highest lead price, easiest to get clients, etc etc. The best are the ones you can actually generate quality leads, get a good ROI for the lead price and you will clients that consistently pay their invoice on time as well as are happy with your service. THOSE are the best clients/niches...LOL

You can, but my advice is to do it yourself first and develop a rock solid strategy that consistently generates results for you, then hire a qualified assistant, and teach them exactly what your doing and train them to do the same. If you just hire someone, and say "go generate me some leads" without anykind of direction you are basically flushing your money down the drain.

      • Thanks, I should have been clearer.

I meant are there lead gen companies that you can hire and then mark up the cost to your client? An arbitrage way of doing it.

This isn't necessarily training, but it's a good place to start. http://d323sdlu4gc0m.cloudfront.net/...ad-Company.pdf
