Looking for feedback on my first Cold Call Script

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and I'm looking for pro tips and constructive criticism on my first cold call script. I am part of a lead-gen startup and we are targeting the business insurance decision makers at companies of all sizes.

Here is what I have so far...

Gatekeeper: Hello

Me: Good morning/Good afternoon this is Westfield from XXX. I was wondering if I could speak to the person who handles purchasing your business insurance?

Gatekeeper: Sure, hold on a second

Me: Good morning/Good afternoon (NAME) this is Westfield from XXX. Are you in charge of purchasing the business insurance for the year?

Decision Maker- Yes

Me: Great. My company XXX is a new web based startup that specializes in connecting businesses with the best insurance agents from across the country. I have a quick question, do you compare quotes when you shop for insurance?

Decision Maker- Only when it's time to renew

Me: Well that's great. We have a new web based application that makes that process incredibly easy. I'd love to show it to you. Are you in front of a computer?

Decision Maker: Yes

Me: Fantastic. (goes into demo on company)

Thanks in advance for your feedback. Any thoughts at all are greatly appreciated.

Because Jason Kanigan has a realistic way of getting past the gatekeeper.

I have been doing research on these forums and have gotten some great advice and tips from other users, but I posted this to see what the community thought about my script in particular. I'm looking for any feedback or comments regarding my script. I'm brand new to this industry and would appreciate any help with this script.

Why don't you try it out first, identify the problems you currently have and then adjust?

    OK, I'll play.

" I have a quick question, do you compare quotes when you shop for insurance?"

    I'd change that question.

I always tell people to learn mainly from trial and error. Ufortunately, people cpget stuck in the, "I don't know what to do first." Part.

You cannot just sit there and guess and guess being confused on what you're doing. You have to be patient and work at it effectively, and to try it out. Test it and see what happens.

Let me tell you from the other side aka getting these calls and hearing how our receptionist and owner(s) respond to calls what I expect will happen.

Sadly that is not what will happen. Here is what will likely happen.
    1. He is not available let me transfer you to his voicemail.
Even if he is available calls like this are often transferred into his voicemail.
    2. In regards to what kind of insurance?
Many businesses will have different people in charge of different things. Insurance is too big of a category.
    3. *Click*
Some receptionists are told to hang up on cold calls.
So what should you do? Any number of things. Jason's "little unsure" works. Or hell just go for broke and pitch her. Receptionist are not trained how to handle pitches normally.

"Cindy (use their name people love their name) do you think your boss would be interested in saving $$$$ on their insurance?"

Think she is going to say no? Even if it's a cold call (she knows it is) she can't be sure it's not worth his time so unless he literally has yelled at her for transferring such calls in the past he will get it.

I know people say to qualify but I would worry less about qualifing rather this is the right person and more on the benefit.

"John I know you are busy. Would you like to save you company $$$$ on your insurance?"

    "Web Based Startup" = *Click*
"Web Based" = Fly by night to business owners
"Startup" means new and new means risk.

    Insurance is about risk mitigation.

Why do you care rather he compare quotes? What he has done in the past makes no difference with what he may do now.

"Our Company (never say my since they may assume you are a one man show) benefit, benefit, benefit"

Are you making him do it himself? They don't go through insurance brokers to just save money they do it to save time. So why would he take time to go online vs using his broker.

"By putting the ## min process online we cut out the middle man. You may lose you insurance broker and the time he saves you but I bet you phone calls with him are at least ## minutes long right? Take that same time and save yourself $$$ by using our propitiatory software that will make your business with the best quotes in the country.

If you are in front of your computer I can show you how it works right now or we can schedule a time for me to call you back to show you how it works."

Thank you for your feedback Aaron! This is exactly the kind of critique I was looking for. I have made some changes based on your recommendations and have already seen an improvement in the quality of my calls.
