Does Page RAnk Really Matter In Local Search?

Hi,

When doing local searches for my keyword, chicagodentist.com for example, I have noticed PR 1 and 0 sites outranking PR 3-5 sites. Some have exact match keyword in their description but not in the domain name and some don't. Is this due to better backlinking, citations, etc.?

And then next question, does PR even matter in local search?

Thanks,

Bones

There are many factors on why a PR N/A can even outrank a PR 5. In local search you have to consider the age of the listing, citations, backlinks, backlinks to the citations, diversity of citations and backlinks, on page optimization, domain name, etc.

Does PR matter in local search? Yes, a little bit. Organic factors still matter... it isn't the most important factor and people chasing PR are often chasing the wrong thing. In 2010 PR mattered a lot, now... not nearly as much.

I'm not an expert. but I think that new videos and listings sometimes outrank higher Pagerank content...because it's new. I've noticed that in my listings. After a few weeks, they seem to settle into a lower ranking.

Good point and overlooked. For anything in organic it seems newer content whether videos, listings, blog postings, etc. will gain a boost in SERPs due to "recent relevance" or being fresh.

Very, very interesting. But it is a year old. Which is 7 years in a dog's (Google's) life, no?

Yes the PR of sites linking to you still matters in all things SEO. (though many think otherwise)
