If you had the chance to...

I'm running a new place where people can run pages about different subjects - niches, brands, celebrities, and now, places, like towns and cities around the world.

Given the appeal-factor, I can easily attract people to run these pages because they can be very easily monetized in a big way.

My problem is, I need to deter spammers and spinners, so I'm trying to work out what kind of people would be the best fit to run my "places" pages.

Instinctively, I'd pick offliners. Like you lot. You are "on the ground" and you are face-to-face with people in that town/city every day.

Question is, would this be of appeal to you? Maybe I can tickle your fancy by saying it can be used for free. I can spice it up even more by pointing out that page-managers can make a lot of money from their pages.

Here's a quick intro :

Each page/account includes a bunch of tools for the page-manager to use :
- a Blog.
- a Photo and a Video gallery.
- a local Events section to promote local concerts, fairs, special dates.
- a Classifieds Board to list/promote local businesses.
- a Store to sell local products, tourist memorabilia, delicatessens, etc...
- plus, you can run Forums for local residents and businesses to interact.

Visitors can also subscribe to your page by clicking "Follow" and they will automatically be mailed updates on your page, building a mailing list on automatic.

Monetizing all this can be done in multiple ways and we leave it to each page-manager to decide how to monetize their pages.

For offline marketers, taking over a page about the town/city you "work", could be a massive advantage. For example :
- attract local residents AND businesses.
- listings in the classified ads section on your city page is yet another lead for your local clients.
- offer a spot on your city page's store to sell local produce from your clients to local members.
- use photos and videos to promote your town/city and attract more local people each day from search engines, YouTube, etc.
- build a list of local residents and businesses on auto-pilot.

So, before the doors open to the general public, I wonder if I could pick the brain of 1 or 2 of you via PM to understand if this is something that could compliment your offline business.

Let me know if you'd like to know more and I'll send you the link with additional information.

Thanks in advance.

So basically you are asking "US" to fill in the blanks on a local directory for you... um... what is in it for us? Oh I can monetize my little piece of the pie, what about a cut in the bigger piece?

If you are going to play sheep in wolves clothing... you better get a better costume

Seeing that I have a directory or 2... why not directly contact store owners with a mail piece and offer a "Free" listing based on stipulations. They guest write 3 articles. one that pertains directly to their business and then 2 others that pertain to the community at large. IE festivals and gatherings and the like.

Id be a schmo for just calling you out and not offering a solution.

I would totally have accepted criticism AFTER you'd seen the place and made a proper assessment of the "pie" for you!! That's like saying why should I tweet on Twitter if I don't get a piece of the "pie", or, why should I bother posting my videos on YouTube??

So, I really don't get your critique at all! Thanks for your time, Savidge...i guess.

So, do you want moderators for each of these pages, is that what you're requesting? Do they too get a piece of the action, so to speak or do they moderate/update their page voluntarily? What's in it for them ultimately? I'm trying to wrap my mind around what you're trying to accomplish.

Is there a site you're modeling it after to give us an idea of what you're talking about? Directories are a great idea if they're pulled off well, and it appears you are ahead of most in that department.

On a side note: you have to understand that many people see new posters as big "takers" in that they come in and ask, and are never heard from again. They don't contribute to conversations. They don't thank those who've contributed greatly. Not saying this is the case, of course, just laying it out as I see it.

It's a very giving part of the forum. Savidge4 is one of those great contributors. I've spent hours poring over some of his lengthy posts. You could probably learn a lot just by reading his stuff. I know I have. Just sayin'.
