Why did the site get hit? Poor quality content or bad backlinks?

The content is 100% original and high quality. I hit the site with bulk spam package back in late January, and within a week it shot into the top 5 on Google for the main keyword phrase. Unfortunately one of the updates in March slapped it pretty hard, and it hasn't returned to the top 200 since. All of the pages are still indexed, so it may be salvageable for Google.

Fortunately, Bing/Yahoo doesn't seem phased by the bulk backlinks, and the site has been in the top 10 on the 2 search engines since mid-February. It is an easy $100+ a month right now, and can make 2-3 times that if gets into the top 3.

I'd love to keep it, but I need to free up some money for another project. I am torn about selling it, since it makes a steady $100+ a month and continues to improve its ranking on Bing and Yahoo and adsense revenue ($40.23 over the last 7 days).
