Programmers Brain wants to invest 10 a day to learn PPC

I'm a programmer. The part of IM that slows me down is the creative/copy side of the whole endeavor.

I've even built autoblogging tools, scrapers etc, in the past in an effort to program my way into IM.

I know I know, the money is in the list. Trouble is, that to communicate with the list I've got to do that whole copy thing again.

It seems that pairing PPC with CPA is probably the best way to play in IM without getting heavy into Marketing.

I don't know if that makes sense or not, if not I'd be thrilled to hear your input.

On that note, I believe in trial by fire. So my thinking is put myself on an ultimatum to drop $10 a day steadily until I find a way to turn a profit.

Does that seem like a crazy way to think about this?

    Hi dad2four,

Crazy? No, nothing crazy about setting a budget. I think it's brilliant to make a plan, set a budget and stick to it.

As far as not "getting heavy into Marketing", I wouldn't think that about PPC advertising. PPC is a very competitive channel, because it has such huge profit potential. You will likely find yourself heavily into marketing just from the PPC Channel alone.

Perhaps as a programmer, not wired to be creative, you might be interested in the math and science of Marketing. In my opinion Marketing is about 80% math and science, and only 20% creative. Programmers are often naturally comfortable with the scientific approach to Marketing. So you can get pretty deep into Marketing just from the math and science aspect.

PPC marketing provides lots of marketing data to analyze for insights, and to use in algorithms for automation. This aspect of PPC marketing will likely appeal to the natural programmer in you.

Please realize that you are embarking into a marketing channel that has a rather steep learning curve. PPC marketing is highly dynamic and has a lot of moving parts. While the basics are easy to grasp, many intermediate and advanced concepts are not. Prepare yourself for lots of study and a commitment of time dedicated to constant monitoring.
