Assuming it's not a crappy product and/or sales page. I want to use CJ.

Long-tailed keywords.

The expected conversion rate for sales or lead generation using Adwords PPC is an account banned.

    They have affiliates.

You really need to set up a full blown website that is carefully crafted to make affiliate sales or action if you want to play with Google. Just my 2 cent.

    Start with Bing,

Conversion rates are mainly dependent on two things:

    1. Keywords that get relevant and quality traffic. If you use keywords that are too generic, you'll get a lot of lesser quality impressions, which leads to lesser quality clicks. It's not about quantity, it's about quality.

    2. Your landing page's ability to convert that click. Waiving a carrot in your ad is one thing. Convincing that visitor to buy is another. I've often seen good PPC ads that do the first part well but blow it on the landing page.

      Hi dgaubatz,

      What Lucid said.

I would also add that the message (text) of your ad has a major influence on your conversion rates.

For example I was just looking at the results of a test I was running on callout extensions and noted adding a 2 word phrase to the exact same ad had boosted conversion rate to 27.45%, a 97% lift from the ad variants without that phrase. This same phrase has shown a similar boost in rates across a wide range of keywords and products within this particular niche.

We haven't even added this phrase to the landing pages yet, that will be our next set of content experiments. I will not be suprised if we see an additional boost from implementing this marketing insight into the landing page content, as well as the checkout process.

The bottom line is that your particular conversion rate isn't likely to be anywhere near another website's conversion rate, except by pure random chance. There are just so many variables to consider, for which you do not possess any data until after you have launched your campaigns.

Its like if you ask someone what is your expected date of death

You cannot tell it without starting and running a campaign. All you have to aim for is ROI. A conversion rate of 50% with negative ROI is not what you want, right?

All I know is that Google Adwords does not like pages where you just collect a name and email.

You would be better off to create a full website that has a few programs in it and an opt in form too.

    All good replies.

I have so much trouble picking a product because i don't want to promote something crappy, pay someone to make a fake review (video or article), i want to keep it honest. I will not promote anything like weight loss because of the honesty thing. I would like to promote organic health products.

Lets say i promote a product, the keyword is the product name or "buy", then the product name. It's a product where most people searching are ready to buy. What do you think would be considered a bad conversion rate, and what would be considered a good enough conversion rate to stop tweaking? Would you ever stop tweaking?

That is true. In other words, the ad may help pre-sell. Often, the higher CTR ads are also the higher converting ones because those two things work hand in hand: you got the click because of a good pre-selling job which reinforces the actual selling on the landing page.

One where you spend more advertising than the revenues you make. In other words, return on investment. A negative ROI is bad. You could have a bad ROI on a 10% conversion rate and a good one on a 1% rate.

@alfiolora007 (and others), you will NOT get an account suspended or banned simply by the fact that you are promoting a Clickbank product. You will however if you are not following their rules. This includes landing page rules which as it happens, many Clickbank products don't follow.

Every keyword phrase converts at a different rate.

This is the most important thing to remember. You can convert at 25% or more with the right keywords.

Some keywords will convert at 1% , some 2% some won’t convert at all.

If you want 20% + conversion rates use "order" terms only. You are literally buying buyers of your product or service.
