This may sound like a smartass answer, but it isn't intended that way.

The best time to promote a cookbook is when people are looking for cookbooks.

If you're looking for a time of day, just about any time could work given the multitude of time zones available and the length of peoples' days. 4:00 AM in Los Angeles is 7:00 AM in New York, and 11:00 AM in London (IIRC).

If you're looking for a specific time of year, look at the calendar. For example, in the USA, right now is a good time to market a cookbook about Thanksgiving dishes. Early spring through late summer is good for barbeque. And so on.

I didn't realize there was even an option that allows you to target ads by time of day. I'm talking about Adsense, but maybe you are referring to a different type of advertising medium.

        Hi JonnyPlan,

Most PPC discussions on this forum have nothing to do with AdSense. AdSense is a topic that relates to publishers, not advertisers. This forum (PPC/SEM) has a lot of advertisers, but not many AdSense publishers, unless they also happen to be advertising as well. That is why the answers were from the perspective of an advertiser, not a publisher.

Adwords, the advertiser's side of the Adsense coin, allows you to start and pause campaigns based on time of day and day of the week. There are mixed opinions on whether or not this is a good idea. Unless I'm getting a lot of useless clicks, I tend to let them run.

When we talk about PPC, be sure to play genuinely. Best way is deliver them when they want it. If they are searching for cook book; also paste a banner on the first page.

You can use Google Adwords' or Bing Ads' scheduling feature to automatically adjust bids, or to pause and resume campaigns based on the time-of-day or day-of-week. You'll likely find that certain times/days are more profitable than others, and can save money by reducing bids or pausing ads at certain times.

But be careful with dayparting, it can be a two-edged sword. As suggested earlier in this thread, let the data show the best times to run ads.

You may discover peak times when more visitors convert and thus pause campaigns or adjust bids accordingly.
The potential problem is that there's a time delay between visit and conversion, which varies by market, etc.

Which means you can hurt performance with dayparting if you only take peak conversion times into consideration, and not considering peak "search funnel entry" times.

In Adwords, you can get an idea about how many hours or days it takes from first ad impression or click to conversion, using the Search Funnels tool at: Tools > Conversions > Search Funnels > Time Lag.

That information can help you do smarter dayparting.

    Hey Matt try this
Day parting equates to showing your ads only at specific times and/or days. If your business hours are only from 9am-9pm, then you may want to turn off your ads during non-business hours. There are also more advanced uses for day parting including only running/stopping ads during peak hours or slow times/days. You may want to run ads during peak hours because conversion rates will be highest at that time. Conversely, you could turn off ads during peak hours because you already have more business than you can handle during those hours. For slow hours/days, you could offer coupons or specials only during those hours to try to drum up business.

      KevinJohnson1,

I noticed that you dug up a 2 year old thread to post a reply to,

You offer very specific times which might be great for a few very specific niches. I seriously doubt that the information you posted applies in any specific way to the question asked by the OP.

He has long since found out the answer to his question, and since I know that there is no one time period that is ideal for all niches, your information should definitely be ignored by anyone that happens across this thread.

But hey, you managed to get your signature link into the thread which I'm guessing is all you cared about when you dug up this old thread and posted useless info in a single line post, right?

One of the beautiful things about pay-per-click (PPC) marketing is that you have very precise data. Nowhere is this more apparent than in AdWords and we can learn a lot in the Dimensions Tab. Since were interested in knowing the best time to run PPC ads, this is where we want to look.
